DNA paternity testing requires a DNA sample from the alleged father. In some cases, where an alleged father is deceased for example, a DNA profile can be obtained from a non-standard sample such as blood, hair root, skin tissue or personal items such as a toothbrush, comb, or garment. The question of paternity can also be answered by DNA testing with other family members related to the alleged father.

NON-STANDARD SAMPLES FOR PATERNITY DNA TESTING

Non-standard specimens can often yield useable DNA profiles for DNA paternity tests. Because of the complexity in testing such samples, IDENTIGENE cannot guarantee that a special specimen (or a non-standard sample) will yield useable DNA. HOW A DNA TEST FOR PATERNITY WITH NON-STANDARD SAMPLES WORKS

Consult with our DNA Test Consultants regarding your non-standard sample. You can purchase a Special Specimen DNA Test online or call 1-800-DNA-TYPE (800-362-8973) to place your order. For legal tests, the non-standard sample must arrive at the laboratory with a completed chain-of-custody document. Generally this form is completed by a police officer, mortician, coroner or other official. For other participants, one of our DNA Test Consultants will assist you with arranging DNA collection appointments. Collect DNA samples from other participants using the safe and effective cheek swabs provided by IDENTIGENE. Send samples to the laboratory using the prepaid postage return envelope or via express courier. You choose how results are reported: Access your DNA test results online using the email address and results password you provide on the order form. You can also access your results over the phone (password required) and/or have a hard copy of the test results mailed directly to you, an attorney, court officer or social worker.
