The Australian reports 586 DNA paternity test cases in the past four years have shown that the alleged father is not the biological father of children they have been financially supporting.
In most of these DNA testing cases, the mother was not ordered to pay money back. Only 74 of the 586 mothers were ordered to pay restitution in a combined amount of $533,000. These numbers have prompted an Australian Men’s Rights Agency to call for mandatory DNA testing at birth.
The director of Men’s Rights Agency, Sue Price, indicates that the men in the 74 paternity test cases that were awarded restitution will most likely not see any of that money.
The number of exclusions or “Not the Father” tests reported by the government’s child support agency have started a heated debate over mandatory paternity testing at birth.
Although mandatory paternity testing in Australia or the United States seems unlikely at this point, that may change in the future if the Man’s Rights Agency has it their way.
