A Dallas TV report announced that fraternal twins came from different fathers. According to the report, it is rare, but it really does happen. To confirm, we asked an associate lab director, David Einum, about this phenomenon.
He stated that in recent years he had reported more cases of two-father fraternal twins, or heteropaternal superfecundation.Increased reporting does not necessarily mean that instances of this are more frequent. Rather, he feels that the rise in the volume of paternity and other relationship DNA tests performed across America has increased the likelihood of discovering this and other DNA rarities.
