DNA Paternity testing has been a topic of conversation for quite some time now. The advancement in science seems to have taken people by surprise. Paternity testing offers answers to questions that could not be answered with any certainty in the past. Now, paternity tests are everywhere . . . you can even purchase the DNA collection kits at your local pharmacies. This has brought the conversation about paternity test questions out in the open. Are you ready to know the truth?
The DNA Paternity Testing Field
Working in the field of paternity testing provides real insight to scientists, client support representatives and everyone else working at IDENTIGENE. We hear some amazing stories from our clients: some are happy and some are full of heartache. All clients have one thing in common-they want answers. Are you my father? Am I the father of this beautiful child?
Starting the Conversation
Unlike several years ago, the topic of paternity tests has risen to a level of acceptance. People want to know where they came from or what their family medical history looks like, and sometimes they need closure to understand who they are. Everyone participating in a paternity test has their own personal reason for doing so. Paternity testing can help find answers some are searching for. Whether the answers they receive are what they want-or expect-with paternity-testing costs at an all-time low, people now have the means to have these questions answered. A paternity test offers peace of mind, and peace of mind may be just what they need.

I watched the father take his part of the test but the baby was tested 7 days later will that effect the test?
Leslie Bryant says
Thank you for contacting Identigene. To answer your question, no, having the baby tested seven days later will not affect the test or hinder any results. Once the sample swabs are sealed up in the specimen envelope they can be stored for up to 6 months. If you need to store the samples for any amount of time, make sure to store the samples in the sealed specimen envelopes in a safe dry place. If it has been more than 6 months we recommend purchasing a new kit and recollecting samples. The cells on the swabs only have a shelf life of 6 months.
If you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us 1-888-404-4363 Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. E.T. and we will be happy to assist you.
Tammy says
Is the father able to do a paternity test on a child using his other child whom have both children have same mother in place of the mother due to the mother not wanting to give the father a chance to find out if the 2nd child is indeed his child? In need of answers my brother is having trouble with knowing if his 2nd possible child is actually his child!!
Meisha says
I do apologize but I am not completely understanding your question. For an alleged father to see if he is the father of a child or not the child in question would need to participate. If you are interested in having us assist you with your DNA testing needs, please feel free to contact us 888-404-4363 and we will be happy to assist you.
Chris says
Can I do the test with just me and my son or does his mother have to be involved?
Meisha says
Thank you for contacting Identigene. We do strongly recommend including a sample from the biological mother because there is a rare chance the results will come back inconclusive without her. Including the biological mother in the testing is optional. We can do the testing without her sample included, and we do provided conclusive results on a regular basis when only testing the alleged father and the child.
The web link below will provide you with additional information about why the biological mother is sometimes needed to complete testing. I hope this information helps. If you have any additional questions or concerns please feel free to contact us 888-404-4363 and we will be happy to assist you.

This test was performed on my granddaughter and her father without my daughter’s knowledge. It came back that he wasn’t the father but unless she was an immaculate conception he is. This has caused the breakup of a family!! Now my granddaughter has no father!! My daughter wasn’t even aware of the test being performed and it was a mail in test. There was no chain of command to verify anything. They were kicked out of their home over this!! We want a legal test performed and I think you are legally responsible to provide it as this test was done without her consent!!
Meisha says
Hello Amy,
We certainly understand your concerns and we’d like to help. I apologize for the long response, but I want to be as thorough as possible. Of course, you or your daughter may contact us at anytime for additional help: 1-888-404-4363, Mon-Fri, 9am-6pm ET.
First, please let me explain our policies regarding consent to testing for a minor child. We know that the answers to paternity questions are life-changing, which is why we require consent from a legally responsible adult to test a minor child. Usually this is either the mother or the father of the child (only one signature is required), but it may also be a court order or an order from a state agency. Even if a man is not a child’s biological father, he may still have legal authority to consent for testing. For example, your state may grant a man the right to consent to DNA testing if he provides child support, is listed on the child’s birth certificate, or if he is a primary-care provider for the child.
In any case where someone signs consent for the child, but is not legally authorized to do so, we recommend reporting it immediately to local state authorities. We cannot be held legally responsible for someone who fraudulently signs consent, but the person who signed may be held responsible. Your local state authorities will know how to best proceed.
Please note, that it is also our policy to make test results and documents available to the mother of the child (if she does not already have access). Your daughter may contact us to request this information at any time and we’ll be happy to help.
Second, I’d like to talk about at-home collection versus a chain-of-custody collection. We certainly recommend collecting samples via a legal, chain-of-custody, especially if the collection process may have been performed incorrectly (either innocently or intentionally). Because you have already paid for a test with an at home collection, we’d be happy to waive the lab fees for a new test with a witnessed sample collection. The parties involved would only have to pay for the kit supplies and the collection costs (usually $40/person) and we can perform a new test (no new charge for the lab fee) with the chain-of-custody samples.
I hope this helps address some of your concerns and provide helpful next steps. Again, please contact our customer support center and we’d be happy to provide additional help.

A Brown says
My brother was tested recently using your service. However, the mother of the child sent him a photo copy of the results as opposed to the log-in info(name/password) for your website. We fear the “results” she provided may have been altered/tampered with. Is he able to request that the information be sent directly to him?
Identigene says
Hi! We do not withhold test results from anyone who has consented for their own DNA samples to be tested. So, yes, your brother can get this information. If he contacts our client support team himself (you can’t do it for him, in other words) at 888-404-4363, one of our experts will be happy to help him.
Virginia says

Hi! Here’s how the process works:
(1) You send in samples and they arrive at our lab in 5-10 days.
(2) Once they get to the lab, the online account you created is activated and you receive an email letting you know we have the samples.
(3) Once your samples arrive, you receive your results in two (2) business days. You’ll get another email letting you know your results are posted in your secure online account.
Hope this helps! If you have other questions or concerns, please contact our Support Center at 888-404-4363.

I paid for one day results. I should be getting them 11/25 as the email said. Does results come at the end of the day or morning, afternoon? When should I expect them
IDENTIGENE says
Hi, Melissa! It depends on what time of day the samples arrived at the lab. If you call us at 888-404-4363 mid-morning tomorrow (Wednesday), they should be able to give you a reliable estimate. Keep in mind we’re closed for the holiday on Thursday and Friday, so don’t wait till then! All the best to you.
melissa says
I got my results back and im confused onthe wording. It says “john” is not excluded as the biological father probability of relationship is 99.9% . Does that mean “john” is the father?
IDENTIGENE says
Hi, Melissa! That means we consider “John” to be the biological father, yes. If you want help interpreting your results, please feel free to contact us at 888-404-4363.

Hello, I did my test a couple days ago. I put my kids envelope on top of mine and sealed it in the main envelope. I then seen saliva leaking through the main envelope so what if my dna got onto the kids qtips through leaking through the paper Will this change the results or automatically make him mine because of it.
Admin says
Hi, Kyle. If there are any problems with your DNA samples, the lab will notify you and ask for new samples from you. It won’t affect your results, so no worries.
John F Kulcsar says
I filled out the paperwork with my email and cc numbers.I did not make up any password, will they just send the results to my email?
Identigene says
Hi, John. For security reasons, we do not send results via email. We only send email alerts to let you know your results have been posted online to a secure account. Once you receive the email letting you know that your results have been posted, you’ll need to call us to get help accessing your account: 888-404-4363.
