Paternity testing can be stressful enough. Add the fact that you don’t want mom, child or maybe even the possible father to know about the testing and it becomes even more of a worry! You begin to think of ways to test for paternity without the other party knowing, maybe sending in some hair, toothbrush or other special specimens. So . . .
“How can I do a secret DNA test?”
This is a very common question asked by potential IDENTIGENE clients when they call us. Many people are looking for a way to test without one or more persons knowing. Want to know how?
ANSWER: All legal DNA tests require a consent signature from the person whose samples were submitted. Samples provided for minors under the age of 18 need to have the consent form signed by a legal guardian. So if you want to do a legal paternity test using cheek-swab samples for mother, potential father, and child, it cannot be secret.
‘So can I send in a toothbrush or some hair?’
ANSWER: Yes, but the special specimen test still requests consent from all participants or samples will not be tested. Also, very specific criteria must be met in order for us to accept these types of samples for testing.
Here are some of the details about special-specimen testing:
- Our lab must do a viability test for special specimens first, to determine whether enough DNA can be extracted. The testing fee for viability is non-refundable.
- The lab needs more information such as what the sample is, how old the sample is, and how much of it there is.
- Special specimen testing is $150 plus the relationship test lab fee.
- Keep in mind that processing a special specimen does not guarantee there will be sufficient DNA for testing.
‘I don’t want testing to be secret, but they refuse to send in or provide a DNA sample. So what can I do?’
You’ve already tried talking to the person, letting them know the benefits of finding the truth and having a peace of mind, but they won’t budge. This is an issue we hear all the time and we sympathize! This is when other relationship testing comes in handy.
ANSWER: IDENTIGENE offers Grandparent, Sibling, and Avuncular DNA tests. We understand there are circumstances when a participant is not available or willing to test. These tests provide a way to answer paternity questions using first-degree relatives. Keep in mind that all test types will require consent from the participants sending in their DNA.
The bottom line
‘Honey, I want a paternity test,’ may not be your favorite conversation starter, and an even more difficult one to hear. When it comes to paternity testing, we believe honesty really is the best policy. Consent for the child and other participants must come first.

Hi , my name is Theresa. I have sex with my partner and after he left I have sex with another guy so I’m not sure who my baby for and I don’t want partner know that I’m doing a dna. What should I do?
Meisha says
Thank you for contacting Identigene. Whenever possible, it is always best to do a direct paternity with the alleged father and child. However, we do have other testing options when the alleged father is not available such as: Grandparent DNA (alleged father’s parents), Sibling DNA (alleged father’s other children), and Avuncular DNA (alleged father’s brother/ sister) tests.
These other type of tests is considered family reconstruction testing. To ensure that you select the correct test for your situation we recommend you contact us at your earliest convenience.
I have provided a link to additional testing information. If you have any additional questions or concerns, or are interested in having us assist you with your DNA testing needs, please feel free to contact us 888-404-4363 and we will be happy to assist you.

Christian says
I want to now if me or my cusin is the father of a baby. But having the same blood wont be a problem?
IDENTIGENE says
Hi, Christian. Everyone’s DNA is different and that’s what we test. You and your cousin will have different DNA and so we would be able to tell which of you fathered the baby. You would need to do two separate tests to ensure that one of you is the biological father.
(1) We would compare your DNA with the baby’s (including the mother’s too, for the same price)
(2) We would compare your cousin’s DNA with the baby’s (including the mother’s too, for the same price)
Of course, if you only want to know if you are/are not the father, then only one test would be needed. If you have questions, feel free to call our Client Support experts at 888-404-4363.
holly says
Hi my father won’t pay for the test so how can I get this done without having to go to the court he also lives in another state
Admin says
Hi, Holly. It doesn’t matter if he lives in another state, but we do require payment up front before any testing is performed. Is he even willing to test? He just won’t pay for it? I suggest you contact us directly at 888-404-4363 (M-F, 9 AM to 5:30 PM Eastern), and one of our experts can go over your options with you.

My son’s ex giflcr5 had a baby girl on 11/11/2019 he refuses to take a DNA test
But ..I want to know if the child belongs to our family a d if I have a new grand child
The mother of the baby wants to help me with this
HomeDNA Identigene says
Hi, Jackie. You can do a grandparent test with you, the baby, and the baby’s mother. You need to call our parent company DNA Diagnostics Center (DDC) directly to set up the test. That number is 800-681-7162 (M-F, 8 am to 8 pm Eastern Time).

My girlfriend got baby on December on 35 weeks and 2 days pregnancy but we been married for only 33 weeks and hadn’t have any intercourses before married I want to know if the baby is mine or not
HomeDNA Identigene says
Hi, Reyrey. That’s a question a paternity test can definitely answer!
brewer says
I want to make sure my son is really mine. His mother does not want us to take the dna test so I want to know if I can do one without the mother’s dna. And if so how accurate would it be. I am a legal guardian so that’s not the issue.
Meisha says
Thank you for your question, Brewer.
We do strongly recommend including a sample from the biological mother because there is a rare chance the results will come back inconclusive without her. Including the biological mother in the testing is optional. We can do the testing without her sample included, and we do provided conclusive results on a regular basis when only testing the alleged father and the child. Results will be 100% accurate based on the samples and information sent to us to test with.
The web link below will provide you with additional information about why the biological mother is sometimes needed to complete testing. I hope this information helps. If you have any additional questions or concerns please feel free to contact us 888-404-4363 and we will be happy to assist you.

Hey my name is alexus and i do not know who my childs father is. Is there any other way for me to find out who he is
Identigene says
Hi, Alexus. The very best way to determine a child’s father is to do a DNA paternity test.
Sam says
Hi my name is sam, im not sure who my babies dad is , i do not have any contact with him or his side of the family at all so getting him to do it is not an option, how can it be done ?
Identigene says
Hi, Sam. Without having any contact with the alleged father or anyone in his family, there is no way to determine the paternity of your child through DNA testing.
Calvin says
How long can you hold a DNA swab testing before sending it in?
Meisha says
Good afternoon Calvin,
Once the sample swabs are sealed up in the specimen envelope they can be stored for up to 6 months. If you need to store the samples for any amount of time, make sure to store the samples in the sealed specimen envelopes in a safe dry place. If it has been more than 6 months we recommend purchasing a new kit and recollecting samples. The cells on the swabs only have a shelf life of 6 months.
If you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us 888-404-4363 and we will be happy to assist you.
Ariana says
Hi. My name is Ariana and I am 17 years old. I have lived with my aunt (my biological fathers sister) since I was three. She recently brought up the topic of adoption, saying we had to do it before I turn eighteen in three months. I feel that she is hiding something. I don’t look like anyone on my dads side of the family, let alone my moms. I want to get a DNA test done before the adoption process can start. The problem is, my dad lives 2,500 miles away and I have no way to get DNA from him. How can I get a test done without Dan from my father of mother
Meisha says
Thank you for your question, Ariana.
If the alleged father is in another state:
The personal DNA Paternity Test kit can be purchased at your local Wal-Mart, Rite Aid and CVS pharmacies. The kit includes all supplies necessary to submit samples for 1 alleged father, 1 child, and the biological mother (optional). You can send the collection materials to the person who lives in another state so they can collect their samples, or they can simply buy their own kit to collect their samples.
You can either have the other person send the samples to you so that you can send all of the samples in at the same time, or they can be sent in to us separately. If samples are going to be sent in to our lab from separate locations, we recommend that you call us to pre-pay for the testing so that we can give you a case number to write on all of the specimen envelopes. This will help to ensure that all of the samples are linked to the same case when they arrive at our lab. You can also order a Personal DNA Paternity Test Kit directly from us over the phone and we will send kit supplies to each person directly.
If the alleged father is not willing/available to participate:
Whenever possible, it is always best to do a direct paternity with the alleged father and child. However, we do have other testing options when the alleged father is not available such as: Grandparent DNA (alleged father’s parents), Sibling DNA (alleged father’s other children), and Avuncular DNA (alleged father’s brother/ sister) tests.

If me and my son went to our local DNA testing place and after 5 1/2 months the results came back excluded but my child father told me he never went and got tested but someone down there said they had old DNA samples from him on file is the test accurate or should we purschase the kit we are really confused pls help
Meisha says
Hello Michelle,
Unfortunately we would not be able to speak for another DNA testing facility so our best recommendation would be to contact that facility and ask about their processes. If you want to be sure the results are correct you can do a second test to compare the results to the first one. If the results come back the same then the correct participants DNA would have been tested in both tests. If the results are different then the participants DNA was not tested for both tests.
We offer two types of tests; legal and personal. Legal DNA testing requires that all parties go to a designated collection facility so that a Chain of Custody can be established. Chain of Custody is the process used to maintain and document the chronological history of the samples (who has control of the samples at what time). At the collection facility, you will be asked to sign consent papers, designate an address where you want the results sent, and provide personal information such as photo identification. This process prevents anyone from being able to provide incorrect samples.
Personal DNA testing is not legally admissible in court, because the DNA samples are collected in the privacy of your own home. There is no way to confirm whom the samples were collected from.
I hope this information helps. If you have any additional questions or concerns please feel free to contact us 888-404-4363 and we will be happy to assist you.
Nicole says
Hello,
I recently used your product and had a few questions. Well really just one. I live in Dallas and sent the samples through mail on Sunday April 11, 2015. When will you receive it? And when can I log in? Thank you.
Meisha says
Hello Nicole,
If your samples were mailed using the postage paid envelope provided in our kit it usually takes 7 – 9 mailing days for it to arrive here at our lab. Once your samples arrive we will send you an email notification advising that the samples have been received. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us 888-404-4363 and we will be happy to assist you.

Hi there I have a son and I have 2 possible fathers I want to get a DNA test done but don’t have the money. But I also need to hide it from my parents I don’t want them to find out. I want to have the results no1 else. How do I go about doing that thanks.
Meisha says
Good afternoon Jess,
To test one alleged father and one child it would be $89 for the lab fee. If two alleged fathers and one child are tested the lab fee would be $178 for the personal peace of mind paternity test.
We care about the privacy of our customers so we would not contact anyone with your information or results. We can only discuss case information (including results) with those listed on the case (whether it is the payee, contact, or participants), and with verification of information.
I hope this information helps. You are welcome to contact us at 888-404-4363 with any other questions or concerns you may have and a DNA consultant will be happy to assist you.
Courtney says
Can I use IDENTIGENE with a possible sibling to see if we have the same father?
Meisha says
Hello Courtney,
We do offer a sibling test. Since everyone gets half of their DNA from the mother and half from father, we can determine the type of relationship for siblings:
– Full vs. Half
– Full vs. unrelated
– Half vs. unrelated
The Sibling DNA test is $399, and results are typically available in 5 business days; this does depend on how your samples react to testing. You can order this test directly from us over the phone and we will send kit supplies out to each person for collection. To ensure that you select the correct test for your situation we recommend you contact us at your earliest convenience.
The test results for siblings will be one of four categories: strongly supported (conclusive), somewhat supported, inconclusive or not supported. We do strongly recommend including a sample from the biological mother (both mothers when relevant). There is a greater chance that the results will come back inconclusive without her.
I hope this information helps. If you have any additional questions or concerns, or are interested in a Sibling test please feel free to contact us 888-404-4363 and we will be happy to assist you.

jovante says
Hi I sent out my DNA test, and after that I realized you couldn’t drink or eat for a hour before, I had candy right before my test, do u think that is gonna affect my results?
Meisha says
Hello Jovante,
There is a possibility that the samples could be contaminated from the candy but our lab will be able to detect this. We even detect if there are two different DNA samples on the same sample swab, as it will show two different DNA profiles. If samples are not contaminated our lab will be able to complete your testing and provide you with an accurate result. In the event that the samples are contaminated, we do offer a free recollection kit.
If you have any additional questions or concerns please feel free to contact us 888-404-4363 and we will be happy to assist you.
Ariel D. Jones says
Hi im in a situation where my fiancés ex girlfriend won’t let him get a DNA test on the baby because he is with me now. Is there a way these test can be done without the babies specimen? Like would the mother and the potential fathers be enough?
Meisha says
Good afternoon Ariel,
Thank you for your question. Unfortunately we are not able to determine paternity with just the mother and alleged father. We would need a child’s samples to compare to the alleged father to see if there was a match in DNA or not.
If you have any further questions or concerns please feel free to call us at 888-404-4363 and we will be happy to assist you.

I have a sililiar situation.
My son is 17 yrs old.
My Ex wife has told me a few times that he is not mine (when she was angry)
I know it could hurt his feelings deeply uf he thought i questioned that he is mine.
Is it legal & is there a way i can secretly collect a sample to be tested so it woyld not hurt his feelings?
JC, in cali
Identigene says
Hi, JC. If you share legal guardianship of your son, then you can have a paternity test run with just your sample and his. As to whether or not you should do this test, because your son is a teenager and would be well-aware of why you’re swabbing his cheek, it is best to consult with your doctor, a therapist, and/or school counselor before making the decision to do the test. Getting professional advice and help is essential to making the best possible decision. Good luck!

Hello,
I recently did a DNA test on myself and daughter on 05/24/2015! And I have a few questions, like how long will it take for y’all to receive our results? I’m all the way from Georgia!! And my other question is, will I still receive my results if I didn’t put a email address on the application? I put two phone numbers but forgot the email!! And my second question is, when y’all do call, if y’all call my wife’s number first and I’m not around could y’all still tell her the results if she knows the secret password??
Thanks so much
Meisha says
Hello Tyler,
If your samples were mailed using the postage paid envelope provided in our kit, it usually takes 7-10 mailing days for it to arrive here at our lab from GA. Since you did not provide an email address we will not be able to notify you once your samples arrive so you will need to contact us for an update on your case. For security and privacy purposes we do not call out when samples arrive or when results are available, we only call out if there is an issue on your case that is keeping our lab from testing or from releasing your report. Your wife can call and verify the password, and we can provide her information as long as she is listed on your case. If she is not listed then please be aware that we will not be able to discuss any case specific information with her, we can only discuss information with those listed on your paperwork (sample envelopes, payment information, or order form).
If you have any further questions or concerns, or would like an update on your case, please feel free to call us at 888-404-4363 or email us at info@identigene.com. Thank you.
S STONE says
can i get a dna test i the person has past away but still have there tooth brush
Identigene says
Hi! I’m sorry for your loss. Getting a DNA sample that’s viable from a toothbrush is very hit and miss. If the toothbrush hasn’t been used in months or has been contaminated in some way, then the DNA may no longer be adequate for testing. The only way to tell is to have it sent to an accredited lab for analysis and that can cost $400-800. And you would pay that price even if no viable DNA was able to be collected, so please keep this in mind. You are more than welcome to contact us and talk to an expert. The number is 888-404-4363 and we’re open M-F from 9 AM to 5:30 PM ET.
sheryl says
My exes parents went behind my back and did a paternity test on my son when my ex (at the time bf) took him for the day. I had told them all before that he was not the father of my son. But instead of asking me, taking me to court or anything… went behind my back and performed a DNA test without my consent. My question…. is that legal? Does the parent on the birth certificate have to sign for the DNA test or can just anyone? If not if they forged my signature what can I do about this?
Identigene says
Hi, Sheryl. If your ex also has legal guardianship of the child, then he can have a DNA test performed without the consent of the mother.
Kayla says
Is it legal even if the father didn’t sign the birth certificate?
HomeDNA Identigene says
An alleged father must get all appropriate permissions from a parent with legal authority to act on behalf of a minor child.
zclay says
Recently I was not allowed at the birth of “my” second daughter due to my ex fiancé’s parents. She swears it’s mine but nothing adds up and she has lied several times about cheating before. The baby looks nothing like her sister, her mom or me. Honestly I want it to be mine but do not want to pay child support for another child I will barely get to see. Is there a way I can send samples of the baby and me only, without the mom knowing? Note there is no way the mother will let me get samples of herself without it being a fight. She keeps pushing the birth certificate hard on me, I feel I’m being trapped and forced so she won’t be embarrassed in front of her parents. Thanks ahead of time.
Identigene says
Each IDENTIGENE DNA kit contains materials for collecting samples from the potential father, child and mother. Although it is not necessary to have the mother’s DNA sample for the paternity test, we recommend testing her as well whenever possible.
Tim says
Hi! To start off, both the questioned father and legitimate mother are minors. My first and biggest question is just how will this affect the legal basis for the test. Would you have to go through the mother and father of the teenagers or could a test take place with just the “sayso” from the minors themselves.
Identigene says
Hi, Tim. The rules for the age at which minor parents can sign for their own DNA testing varies from state to state and also depends on other factors. I suggest you contact an IDENTIGENE specialist at 888-404-4363 for information about your individual circumstance.
Nisha says
I had sex with a guy Before my period and another guy after my period im unsure who the father it.. they guy i had sex with after had been there every step of the way. I’m scared to bring DNA testing up.
Identigene says
Hi, Nisha. I understand that bringing up DNA testing can be a little scary, but it really is the only way to determine for sure who the father is. You can purchase an IDENTIGENE kit at select retailers in your area. Testing and obtaining your results are private and discreet processes and our Client Support team is available to answer questions if you have them – we’re here to help. All the best to you.
Jamie Johnson says
Can this test be used on the mother and child only? Or, is it just a test for fathers?
Identigene says
Hi, Jamie! Yes, the paternity test kit available for purchase at your local retailer as well as on our website can indeed be used for maternity testing instead of paternity testing. Just be sure you select “maternity testing” when you register on line or, if you are sending hard-copy paperwork in with your samples, be sure to mark the paperwork as a maternity test. The process and lab fees are exactly the same as for a paternity test. If you have any more questions, don’t hesitate to contact one of our client support representatives at 888-404-4363 during business hours.
Dennis says
My mother passed away 10 years ago. I have always doubted that my Father was my real Dad because I don’t look at all like him, he is a compulsive liar, alcoholic and he abused me severely when I was a child and not my siblings. I don’t want him to suspect my intentions about getting the test because I do not believe he will submit to it willingly. Any suggestions?
Identigene says
Hi, Dennis. For a paternity test, we require all participants to give their permission for testing (with a signature). This means you would need to be upfront with your dad about it. If he refuses, or if you choose not to discuss it with him, there are other types of relations testing that might answer your questions. These types of tests are much more labor-intensive at the lab level and therefore more expensive, however. You’re welcome to contact our client support team at 888-404-4363 to discuss your options. We wish you all the best!
Angel says
Hi, I am Angel.
I want baby/conceive from my boyfriend. But I dont want in future that my spouse to know about that he is not the father of the baby even through DNA test. So, Is there any way to conceive or get pregnant so that later the DNA test of the baby to know paternity i.e. father of the baby cannot be identified, because I dont want father of the baby to be disclosed to anyone else. Please advise if this is possible or which specialist to consult regarding this.
Thanks in advance !
Identigene says
Hi, Angel. Thanks for your question. Everyone has DNA and can always be identified via testing, no matter how they are conceived. That being said, as long as the baby is a minor a test can only be ordered through a legal guardian. So you do have control over that information while the child is young.
Katie says
My child was tested using IdentiGene, but I am her only legal guardian. The test was done and sent in by someone unrelated to her, and they signed their name for my daughter’s test, when they have no legal authorization to. I didn’t even know the test was being done. What does that mean for them?
cengerman says
Hi, Katie. If events happened as you describe them, then what the person did was forgery, which of course is illegal. We suggest you get legal help if you want to press charges. As for the results of a test like this obtained by fraud, they wouldn’t be admissible in court. When participants supply samples for a “peace-of-mind” (non-legal) paternity test and sign the form, we make the assumption that it is legitimate. Hope this helps!
Annie says
Hello, I would like to test two grandkids by my son. He didn’t want to take the test in the past for several reasons; but I have researched on this topic; so these are two kids with different mothers; so can I get the Avuncular DNA Test done with my son biological sister and me his mother and these two kids? What will be the total amount for this test? This would be the Home Test.
IDENTIGENE says
Hi, Annie! The more participants in a test like this, the better. We can do a Grandparent Test to determine whether or not you share a biological relationship with these two children. It would be optimal to have both mothers participate. If the children are underage, you need to have the consent of their legal guardians. Testing would be $399 per child. If you decide this is something you want to do, contact the experts in our Client Support Center at 888-404-4363 (M-F, 9 AM to 5:30 PM Eastern) and they can set it up for you. Hope this helps!
Leah says
Hi, I just turned 21 and I wanna make sure that my dad is my biological father. Just to be clear both parents are in my life, but I’d want to be discreet about it. Thank you.
IDENTIGENE says
Hi, Leah. As we mentioned in this blog, we require consent from all parties being tested before testing can begin. Being upfront with your parents and talking your concerns through is the strategy we always recommend. Now, if they agree to be tested along with you, the test is absolutely confidential from beginning to end. You gather samples in your own home and send them in to our lab. You’ll get results posted online to a secure account two business days after the samples arrive.
shani says
can DNA proves whether someone had sex recently?
IDENTIGENE says
Hi, Shani. Usually that kind of testing is only done in circumstances of sexual assault. IDENTIGENE does not conduct this type of testing. Sorry!
MrsL says
Hi. My husband would like to take a paternity test from 2 children in the UK, before he proceeds to any financial support. However, we are now living here in Fiji. Who will be the strongest representative for his genes? 1. His biological brother OR 2. His other biological daughter? Thanks.
IDENTIGENE says
Hi! This is a great question. And lucky you living in Fiji! The best possible scenario is to test his biological daughter with the two children in the UK to determine if there is a half-sibling relationship. Optimally, the test should include the mother (s) of the two kids in the UK. If the mother(s) is/are not willing to participate, the chances of getting an inconclusive result are much higher. Should you decide to test, we can arrange it for you (mail kits, etc.). If you anticipate results may be needed for court (for child support reasons, in your case), we highly recommend you do a legal test. With this test, an impartial third-party checks ID, supervises collections and mails them to the lab. This protects against paternity fraud (a participant submitting someone else’s sample). Call us at 888-404-4363. We are open 9 AM to 5:30 PM Eastern Time here in the United States. Hope this helps and good luck!

Steve williams says
Hello, I have a question. I have a 2 yr old daughter with my ex girlfriend. we seperated for a while, once we got back together she told me she was pregnant even tho we were still messing around but I think she was seeing someone else also. make the story short, she had another baby girl, but she doesn’t have the same skin color as my other daughter. she keeps telling me im the father of the second baby girl but a couple times when we got into petty arguments she’ll tell me it’s not my baby. we took a home DNA test but I did mines separate from her and the baby. We no longer live together. when the results came back it said I was father. Could she have switched the DNA and swab our first baby girl at her home ?
IDENTIGENE says
Hi, Steve. You can’t go strictly from looks to exclude yourself from paternity. But since you weren’t together when collecting and submitting samples for the first test you did, it’s possible she could have swabbed the first baby instead of the second. There are two ways to be absolutely sure:
1. You are all in the same room and supervise each other collecting samples to ensure DNA’s coming from the right baby. You should also be in the same car when you mail them to make sure nothing’s been tampered with. This works for “peace of mind” but results aren’t court-admissible. Or:
2. You pay a little extra to have an impartial third-party (Collector) check everyone’s ID, supervise sample collection, and send the samples in. It’s called a “legal paternity test” and the results are court-admissible, should you need to take legal action. Our Client Support Center at 888-404-4363 can help arrange legal testing for you.
Does this help and answer your question?
Steve williams says
you right its not about the skin color but what about the looks ? yea and see that’s where i messed up at, I should’ve took it at her house together and mailed it together. Is there a way could we do it again ? but not going to court i rather not take her thru all that.
IDENTIGENE says
Again, you can’t go by looks. Some kids with the same parents don’t look anything like their siblings or their parents either! Genetic traits come down from generations on both sides and work something like a lottery…you never know what a child might inherit. Some kids have blue eyes even though their parents both have brown, right? As for your test, you don’t have to go to court to have a legal test done. Many people who have legal testing never DO go to court…they just want to make sure that all participants in the test are who they say they are and that no tampering has gone on. It’s done a lot if mom and possible dad live in different states and have no way of collecting samples all together in the same living room.
Steve williams says
Another question OK say if we order it online do we still have to mail in the samples ? and how long does it take for us to get the results ? Will you call us ?
Steve williams says
True, you’re so right about that.
IDENTIGENE says
Yes, you still have to send in samples. What you’re ordering online is the kit with the special cheek swabs (if you haven’t already picked them one up at Wal-Mart, CVS or Rite-Aid) and you’re paying the lab fee too. If you already have a kit, then you just pay the $89 lab fee.
IDENTIGENE says
Oh I forgot to answer the rest of your question. When you order online (or by calling our Client Support Center), you create an online account. The person creating the account gets two emails: one when your samples arrive at the lab (if you use the business reply envelope included in the kit, this takes 5-10 days) and one when your results are ready to view (2 business days after the samples arrive).
Steve williams says
OK, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
IDENTIGENE says
No problem, and good luck! If you have more questions, you’re more than welcome to contact Client Support at 888-404-4363 (M-F, 9 AM to 5:30 PM Eastern Time).
Heather says
I would like to do DNA on two children with the father since mother is optional can I label that envelope as child # 2 and will I need to pay two lab fees?
IDENTIGENE says
Hi, Heather. Yes on both counts!
Bet says
I am a daughter in-law want to do DNA test to fine out if my mother in-law is my husband biological mother?
IDENTIGENE says
Hi, Bet. Is your mother-in-law willing to submit samples for testing?
Brianna says
How much is it to do a test?
IDENTIGENE says
Hi, Brianna. Testing for one possible father, one child, and one mother (mother is optional) is just $89 plus the price of the kit, which is about $24.99 at most retailers. Is this what you wanted to know?
Christopher Dixon says
I am a sixteen year old who is the child of a single mother. My mother never told me who my biological father was but she was married to a man and the split up a few months after they married. She was dating this guy and she found out she was pregnant. When she found out she was pregnant, she got back with her husband. Is the husband my father or could the boyfriend be my father? I am confused on who is my father. Could a blood test help or would I have to do a DNA test?
IDENTIGENE says
Hi, Christopher. From what you wrote, it sounds as if your biological father could be either gentleman. A DNA test is the most definitive way to determine paternity. Since you are underage, it would require your legal guardian’s permission.
IDENTIGENE says
Hello, Jennifer. We only need one legal guardian’s signature for your daughter to be tested, so no, technically your husband wouldn’t need to also agree.
Benito says
Hello, how are you? I have a big doubt… seven months ago I had a paternity buccal swab test between a baby and myself, the results came in and I was not the father. While the mother was giving birth the doctor who was performing the c-section accidentally cut a main artery and she given a blood transfusion immediately as they continued with the c-section. My question is would the blood transfusion affect the Dna results? If so, how long should i wait to retest? By the way the buccal swab test was done at one month old and the mother was not swabbed. Thank you
IDENTIGENE says
Hi, Benito. I’m well, thank you. The blood transfusion shouldn’t have affected the baby, and even if it had, the lab would have detected two sets of DNA for the baby and asked for new samples. In the overwhelming number of cases, the mother’s samples aren’t necessary for a paternity test. Again, if the lab had thought her samples were needed to confirm results, they would ask for them. Hope this helps!
Mary says
Hello,
My Son and his girlfriend just had a baby and I am suspecting that the child is not my grandson, How can I find out if the baby is my son’s child without his parents to know. I do not want to seem like the crazy mother in law, but I am very concern because the baby looks nothing like my son or us and her due date came earlier than expected. Thank you
IDENTIGENE says
Hi, Mary. We require everyone participating in a paternity test to give their signed consent for testing. For a minor child, consent would need to be given by a legal guardian (usually one of their parents). Details are here in this blog. So we always suggest being open and upfront with the parents of the child. I’m sorry this is probably not the answer you were hoping for.
Alexandra says
Hi, my boyfriend and i have 3 kids together. But he always questioned the youngest one about being his. So he did a dna test and he told me that its not his child. But i think he swabbed another child instead of mines. What should i do?
IDENTIGENE says
Hi, Alexandra. I suggest insisting on doing a legal paternity test wherein an impartial third party witnesses all collections and submits the samples as well. That way you can be sure that everyone is who they say they are and no one else’s samples can be sent in. You are welcome to call us at 888-404-4363 (M-F, 9 AM to 5:30 PM Eastern), and one of our representatives can arrange for you to have a legal test done in your area.
warren says
All the DNA testing labs ask for samples to be sent in paper. I have a toothbrush in a plastic baggie. Is that an issue? If so, why?
IDENTIGENE says
Hi, Warren. Plastic containers encourage the growth of mold, which can greatly degrade the DNA. As for using a toothbrush, it is only in very rare instances that our lab director will approve this kind of sample because the DNA is extremely difficult to extract. The cost with this kind of sample is substantially higher: $399 instead of $89 for a cheek swab. Is there a reason why you can’t collect samples using a lab-approved test swab?
Lupe says
Hi my name is lupe i have 2 children and resently i separeted from there dad but he is now saying his not the father or nether wants a DNA i was wondering if there was any chance to prove he is the father or by his mother or sisters getting a DNA test with my children????
IDENTIGENE says
Hi, Lupe. If the possible father is unwilling to test, we can do a grandparent test using your DNA, the child’s DNA and the paternal grandmother. It’s optimal (and cheaper) if the paternal grandfather is available to test as well. This test costs $399 for one grandparent or $350 for both grandparents. It costs much more than the $89 straight paternity test because so much more analysis is required. If you want advice on what your options are and for complete information, please call us at 888-404-4363 (M-F, 9 AM to 5:30 PM Eastern). If at all possible, we recommend that you convince the possible father to agree to test.
Tiffany says
Is there anyway I could do a dna test on myself without my mother or father??
IDENTIGENE says
Hi, Tiffany. In order to determine family relationships (which I assume is what you want to do), there need to be other participants in the DNA test. To see what the options are for your particular situation, please contact us directly at 888-404-4363 (M-F, 9 AM to 5:30 PM Eastern Time). Thanks!
barbara Thress says
Can a DNA tell if two boys have the same father when the mothers are sisters.
IDENTIGENE says
Hi, Barbara. The answer is yes, but it’s essential that all the right people submit their DNA in order to get conclusive results (including both mothers and the possible father). To get your questions fully answered, feel free to call us directly at 888-404-4363 and one of our experts will be happy to help.
Tammy Adams says
I had my daughter 26 years ago, but wasnt sure who her father was. Recently a man came back in my life who could possibly be her father. He and I would both like to know, but my daughter doesn’t want to know. She said she is content with her step father being her dad and refuses to do a dna test. Since she is over 18, there is nothing I can do is there?
He would have been there for her, but I was young and confused. Now I feel terrible, that I took this possible relationship from both of them.
IDENTIGENE says
Hi, Tammy. No, there really is nothing that can be done, since she is an adult and her consent would be required before testing can be performed. I’m sorry. Perhaps at a later date she’ll have a change of heart. Good luck!
Jude says
My brother and I were having a talk about possibly being full siblings instead of half. We share the same mother but are suspecting that my father is also his. Which test could we use without getting my dads DNA? It’s not that we don’t want him to know we’re testing it but we don’t want to cause trouble if he happens to not be my dads. Much thanks
IDENTIGENE says
Hi, Jude. The only way really would be for one or both of your grandparents on your father’s side to agree to testing, and your mother would need to submit her sample as well. If that’s not possible, then you might want to just be honest with your dad about your question and see what happens.
Gary says
im concerned about my son,if he really my biological son who is now 32yr old I really don’t see any resemblance of me at all, this been bothering me for years I really want to no for sure if he my or not
Admin says
Hi, Gary. I understand your concern, but physical looks are never an absolute determinant of paternity. Whether or not we look like our parents is entirely a matter of chance, of the genetic traits we inherit over generations and how they combine. Is your son willing to test? Because the only way for you to know for sure if you’re biologically related is through a DNA paternity test.
Jones says
I need to have a paternity test but the baby is in a different state than I am and the mother wont bring her here? is there a way we could do it without being in the same place?
Admin says
Hi! Yes, absolutely. If you’ve already purchased a kit, you can send the collection materials to the person who lives in another state so they can collect their samples, or they can simply buy their own kit to collect their samples.
If you have any additional questions or concerns, or need a legal test, or are interested in purchasing a kit directly from us, please feel free to contact us 888-404-4363 and we will be happy to assist you.
Nina says
Hello there, I’m a teenager but my parents divorced when i was young and they always treated me different from my siblings and would claim I only look like my mother and nobody else. I think it might be because I probably has a different father than my mother claims to say. I want to know if my “father” is actually my father, but I dont want him to know that I’m doing a DNA test because my mother will get mad and so would my “father
Admin says
Hi, Nina! You may need to wait until you are legal age to do any kind of DNA testing, because it requires a parents’ consent for minors. Also, we don’t do any “secret” paternity tests without all participants’ permission and consent. Sorry about that and good luck!
steve says
My daughter is 6 years old but I recently found out that my wife had an affair.
I’d like to get a paternity test done.
Do I need my wife’s permission?
Admin says
Hi, Steve. I’m so sorry for what you’re going through…that’s rough! I’m assuming you are on the birth certificate and you’re a legal guardian for your daughter, so the answer to your question is no. That being said, from what we hear from customers every day, doing things like this in secret seldom turns out well, so you may want to consider being upfront with your wife about it. Just a thought. Wishing you nothing but the best!
Jim says
There was a period of time that my wife left me for another man. Soon after she came back (within weeks) she said she was pregnant and that it was my baby. I was doubtful but life went on. My son is now 24 and this not knowing is killing me now. My wife wont participate in a test and I don’t want to ask my son to participate. I just want to know if hes mine or not. What can be done?
Admin says
Hello, Jim. Unfortunately there is no circuitous way around this one. We most likely wouldn’t need your wife’s DNA to confirm paternity, but we definitely need your son’s sample, as well as his consent for testing. I’m sorry . . . this is a rough situation to be in, but I really admire your being a dad to your son even though you doubted his paternity. That says a lot for your character. You should consider all possible consequences of such a test too. If a test were to determine you’re not the biological father after all, what would that change in you relationship with your son? After all these years, would he be any less yours? Just something to think about. Thanks for commenting!
Carrie says
I have a little girl and she looks absolutely nothing like me. But looks exactly like her father but he says that’s doesn’t mean anything. My question is can a child look like a man who’s not her father.
Admin says
Hi, Carrie. Looks alone are never positive proof of paternity. People within ethnic groups share a lot of the same genetic physical traits, so that can make it seem as if they “look” like someone they actually may not be related to. Really, the only way to tell for sure is to do a DNA paternity test.

Narda says
Hi there, my sister found someone who we believe may be our half brother, or maybe even a full brother. Our mom and dad are both dead, (we are 2 of their 7 children) and I’m wondering if hers or my blood sample is enough to compare with his to see if we share the same mom and dad. We will all take the test if it will answer anything like that. He looks identical to Mom but not to Dad…. but then neither do most of the rest of us kids!
Admin says
Hi, Narda. In cases like these, the more close relatives who are willing to participate, the better. It’s like trying to fit together a puzzle when neither a mom or dad is available. I highly recommend you contact us directly and consult with one of our experts. They’ll be able to tell you, based on the specifics you provide, whether or not you have a good chance of obtaining a conclusive result. The number is 888-404-4363 (M-F, 9 AM to 5:30 PM Eastern).
Ann-Marie says
Hi – I have an unusual case here and need to know the truth about my birth mother.
My mother, who raised me, is 89 yrs old and has Alzheimer’s. She is now in hospice care and has recently been telling me that she is not my birth mother and that my (maternal) grandmother and grandfather are my actual birth parents and that she is actually my older sister. Finding this out after all these years, as I am now in my early 60’s, was shocking, but it does explain why she doesn’t appear to be pregnant in any of the family photos (including a relative’s professional wedding photos) taken in the weeks/months preceding my full-term birth, as well as the fact that I look exactly like my maternal grandparents and had a very close bond with them growing up that I never had with my mother. I resemble my mother but look exactly like my grandparents.
My grandmother would have been 53 yrs old and my grandfather 65 yrs old when I was conceived in the early 1950’s. They could not have raised me at their age, but they did take care of me quite often. Also, when I was going through a late menopause a few yrs ago my mother told me my grandmother also went through a very late menopause so I guess maybe if this is true I was a ‘change of life’ baby.
There are no adoption records and I assume it was a secret/private family arrangement that apparently was kept secret for over 6 decades now, so their names don’t appear on my original birth certificate. If this is true then the woman I had known as my grandmother would have had to pretend to be my mother to the hospital staff, using her name (I am sure they didn’t ask for photo ID back then) as my birth was not a home birth, I was born in a hospital. They could have pulled this off since neither had any ID back then — they didn’t drive or have a passport.
How can I find out if my “mother” is telling the truth or just slipping in and out of reality. My grandparents (and father) are all deceased so I can’t use their DNA. If I obtain a blood or other DNA sample from my “mother” before she passes away would that suffice?
Would the test prove she is NOT my mother, because if it did I would automatically know who my bio mother is — my maternal grandmother. I really need to know the truth and find out before my mother passes in a few months. I am also very upset this was kept secret from me, that is, if it’s true. What would you suggest I do. Thank you so much for your time and help.
Admin says
Hi, Ann-Marie. Thanks for giving so many details…they really help to answer your question. I’m also sorry you’re going through such an emotional upheaval, between this news and caring for your mother. It can’t be easy! We can definitely do a maternity test to determine a biological maternal relationship between you and your mom. You just use one of our paternity kits, but for maternity-test reasons. The $89 lab fee is the same for a maternity test as it is for paternity. You and your mom would collect DNA per instructions, using cheek swabs. It’s non-invasive, pain-free, and very easy. Now here’s the super-important part: It is ESSENTIAL that you make a note on the test order form that your deceased maternal grandmother may be your mother. This way, the lab can take that into account in its analysis and conduct more extensive testing (at no additional cost), if necessary. I wish you all the best and hope this helps! If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact our Client Support Center at 888-404-4363 (M-F, 9 AM to 5:30 PM Eastern).
Ann-Marie says
Thank you so much for your prompt, informative reply.
I will obtain the samples in a few weeks when my only sibling is away on vacation as I wish to keep this between me and my “mother” and do not want anyone else in my family to know about this.
Admin says
All the best to you!
Alicia says
My boyfriend has just passed away and I am 5 months pregnant with his child. I know I will be questioned on paternity to apply for dependent support through his estate, and I know his family will not be willing to submit their DNA for testing. What can I do to prove he is the father without having any DNA from his side of the family? Will the courts legally require his adult children to submit since they will be the ones contesting my claim?
Admin says
Hi, Alicia. I’m so very sorry for your loss! I highly recommend that you speak with an attorney about your situation…the court may compel his family to be DNA-tested since they’re not voluntarily willing to do so. As for the science of proving paternity, which is our area of expertise, it is virtually impossible to prove your boyfriend is the biological father of your child without his DNA or some from his first-degree family members. You didn’t mention the circumstances of your boyfriend’s passing, but a sample of his blood may have been saved on a blood card before he was laid to rest. If this is the case, we can do a DNA test with that type of sample. I hope this helps and wish you and your child all the best.
Ann-Marie says
ALICIA — Sorry for your loss. I know this is out of place but I was reading my reply and saw your post and felt compelled to jump in—not at all my usual style, but I was once in your shoes.
Shortly after my first husband passed away I found out I was pregnant with his child. I was shocked as we were trying to conceive for 3 years and nothing happened. His family agreed to a paternity test which proved their son/brother was the biological father. I then requested financial support. They felt they were not going to hand over money for a child they didn’t have a regular relationship with and had also become attached to their grandchild. So they took me to court for child visitation and won. That turned my life upside down. But I was the one who opened up that can of worms, so to speak.
I had to turn my toddler daughter over to them every other weekend knowing they were turning her against me. They also threatened to sue me for custody, and since they were in a much better financial situation than I was, I was fearful they would win the custody suit. They lost, but still had regular visitation. I was connected to them for the next 16 yrs, even after I remarried.
Since they are not the nicest people I should have just kept quiet and moved away or at least not have demanded financial support. I am not at all suggesting that they will do this to you or that they will definitely sue for custody. I am saying it opens the door for that to happen. Something to think about. Been there. Be careful. Best of luck to you.
Brenda says
Hi my husband was in a relationship before we got together the girl left the state so 9 yrs later the girl comes back says my husband has a daughter he wants to know if she’s really he’s bit doesn’t want the mother to know can he do the DNA with out the mother
Admin says
Hi, Brenda! If your husband has no legal parental claim to the child (like being on the birth certificate), then the mother’s signed consent for testing the child is required.
Shatara says
I already have one son by a man and he is unwilling to test to prove paternity of the second baby. What kind of test can i take without him to prove he is the father? And if thats possible what are the fees and what is the process?
Admin says
Hi, Shatara! You didn’t mention if testing showed that the man is the biological father of your first child, which could make a difference. If he is, we could test both children and you to determine if they are half or full siblings, which is an indirect way of determining paternity. Another option is for one or both of the alleged father’s parents to agree to test with the child. You would also want to submit your DNA for this test as well. Because of the more extensive analysis involved, cost is higher than a standard paternity test (it starts at $350). As far as process goes, you’ll need to call us to arrange it and our experts can fill in all the info you need to know: 888-404-4363 (M-F, 9 AM to 5:30 PM Eastern).
Shatara says
Yes he is the father of the first child. I asked him to test the second son and he refuses.
Admin says
So then you can test one child with the other (and include your samples too). Our lab can do a half-sibling vs. full-sibling test. It costs $399. However, keep in mind the results are not court-admissible. If you need results for custody or child-support reasons, you’ll need to do a legal (witnessed) test. It’s probably easiest if you call us directly and speak with one of our experts. They’ll be able to answer all your questions and arrange for testing, should you decide to do it. Good luck!
Nyasia D says
I consented to having a test done for my son. Here’s the thing, my son has already had a test done by his biological father (also on his BC). It came back 99% (which we knew it would). I agreed to having this second one done because we were being harassed & they were threatening to take me to court. I didn’t want that & plus we already knew, but to avoid confrentation I agreed. Now this test comes back positive as too. So I truly think that he swabbed himself & one of his other children. If we had already been through you guys, don’t you have something that pops up & says hey this is not right or hey this is someone else’s dna, not these peoples? Like don’t you compare results? I’m thinking that I should not have a protective order filed against this man.
Admin says
Nyasia, your scenario isn’t very clear. Is there a second man involved apart from the biological father? Is he the one threatening you to court? If so, then obviously there’s some kind of fraud that happened at some point. I highly recommend you call us to discuss your situation directly with one of our experts. A legal paternity test (where IDs are checked and DNA collections/submissions are handled by a third-party witness) would clear up any discrepancies. Our number is 888-404-4363.
Drahcir Semaj says
I just found out that my girlfriend overseas is pregnant (we were trying to get pregnant). I work in a high risk profession and wont be able to to be where she is, physically, for about 6 months.
Is there any way I can have my dna tested and on record, so she can use it to prove that I’m the unborn child’s father, for citizenship and estate purposes, in the event I die before the child is born.
Admin says
Hi, Drahcir. Yes, we do personal DNA profiles. Now, in order for that profile to be used for legal purposes of any kind, your DNA collection and the submission of those samples must be witnessed by a disinterested third party. For details, just give us a call at 888-404-4363 and one of our experts will be happy to help.
Andy says
Will this home test stand up in court?
Admin says
Hi, Andy. Yes, if you call us ahead of time to set up a witnessed test in your area. If you do a home test without an approved witness, then the court won’t accept results. So give us a call! Our number is 888-404-4363 and we’re open M-F, 9 AM to 5:30 PM Eastern Time.
Alexis says
I was born in Sep.1986 and I had a paternity test through the court in Las Vegas NV with two men that my mother thought could be my father, How likely would it be that one of the test were wrong? Since it was from 1986.. I had read that DNA testing was not really done properly til 1995. What is your thoughts?
Admin says
Hi, Alexis. DNA testing technology is certainly light-years better today than it was in 1986. If possible, it would be optimal to re-test.
Admin says
Hi, Tamberlain. Your case is very compelling and I hope you get answers. As a paternity-test lab, we do not maintain a database of DNA profiles and that information is not made available for match-requests such as what you’re asking for. I highly recommend you contact ancestry.com. They are more likely to be able to help you. Good luck!
Brooke says
I am 32 yrs old with some very concerning health problems and with 4 children. The man my mother let sign my original birth certificate is not my biological father(prove thru identagene in 2010) but the other said to be father has repeatedly refused to test. The only relative that I am aware of and that would be willing to test (volunteer dna) are his brother(same mom & dad) and his mother and with his mothers health getting worse with age I feel like I could be running out of time. I don’t need the testing for legal purposes, only medical purpose. What are my cheapest options for testing?
Admin says
Hi, Brooke. Because much more extensive analysis is required when an alleged father isn’t willing to test, you’re looking at $399 to test the uncle and his mother. That really is your best option in terms of price and the probability of getting the most conclusive results. If you have additional questions, I suggest you contact us directly at 888-404-4363. I wish you all the best!
Greg Moore says
My wifes dad that she knew as her dad passed away 3 years ago and she would have half siblings can your test tell if they are her actual half siblings? And what would be the price?
Admin says
Hi, Greg. Yes we can, but in order to get conclusive results, at a minimum we would need the moms of the siblings to participate too. Pricing for this type of testing starts at $399. Please contact us directly to consult about your options with one of our experts: 888-404-4363 (M-F, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern).
Tony De Figueiredo says
hi I’m a 53 year old male that never fathered a child. 2 years ago i went for a sperm count and concluded that my sperm was ‘too weak’ to impregnate a woman.
My partner of 3 years in now 14 weeks pregnant. I work abroad and go home for 3/4 days every month. In the last 4 months we had sex 3 times during that period.
SO, am i unreasonable for requiring a paternity test? I want one because I’m quite certain it cannot be mine.
Admin says
It only takes having sex one time for a woman to become pregnant, right? Perhaps this baby is yours after all, against all odds! That being said, if any man has reasonable doubts about a baby being his, prudence dictates that it would be wise to request a paternity test before signing the birth certificate. In many states, once a man takes legal responsibility for a child either by signing a birth certificate or an acknowledgment of paternity, the courts require that he support that child until age 18, even if a subsequent paternity test proves he’s not the biological father.
Autumn says
OK supposedly my biological father died a month before I was born. My mom was pretty promiscuous back in the day. She swears up and down, it was out of two different guys so the living one and I did a paternity test right after I was born in 1991. Report showed he was my father, so you’d think only leave the other guy. But what if not. What if all this time I thought he was dead and it turns out that the guy wasn’t even my father? To be honest I just want closer, answers, and more importantly I want to know who the other 50% of my is.
Admin says
Hi, Autumn. You can only find out who your father may or may not be based on relatives who are still living. If the deceased parents or other known children of his are still living, you can test with them, as long as your mother is willing to as well. If you want to discuss your case in more detail, please give us a direct call at 888-404-4363.
Cindy West says
My mom had an affair before I was born and I’m wondering if I can find out if my sister and I have the same dad without having to ask my mom for a swab from her mouth. She is 85 and I don’t want her to be upset. Can I get results from just my sister and my DNA?
Thank you
CW
Admin says
Hi! You can, although your chances of getting conclusive results are much better if we also have your mother’s DNA, just so you know. Feel free to contact us directly at 888-404-4363 to discuss your options further.

I don’t mind swabbing my mother if need be (I’ll just have to ask nicely), im her oldest child by the way (in my 20s), and I’ve never known who my father is. An my mother has no clue at all what so ever who it is (I was born in the 90s). I would like to know, for medical reasons and for personal reasons. But how accurate are these results though? Do you all give me the name of who my father is or do you all give me a number/website to go to, to retrieve my information? I just want to make sure I’ll actually get the information I need and not waste my money. No offense. :)
Identigene says
Hi! These are all great questions. In most cases, we only need to have the possible father’s and child’s DNA samples in order to get conclusive results. The first place you need to start is to have your mother give you names of possible fathers and then you’ll need to track them down and start testing, if they’re willing. Without DNA from possible fathers (or their close relations), determining who your father is isn’t possible. If you have further questions, feel free to contact us directly at 888-404-4363. Good luck!
Reggie says
Hi my name is Reggie in have question. I want to know if I’m the real father of my daughter what do I need?
Identigene says
Hi, Reggie. You can purchase our paternity-test kit at CVS, Rite-Aid or Wal-Mart. It has everything you need to test. Follow directions for painlessly collecting DNA for you and your daughter and send the samples in to us. Once samples arrive at the lab, your results are posted in two business days. It’s as simple as that! Now, if you think you may need results at any time for child-support or custody, be sure to upgrade to a “legal test.” With this type of paternity test, DNA collection and mailing is supervised by an impartial witness, so results can be used in court. If you think you need a legal test, contact us directly at 888-404-4363. Hope this helps!

Hello, I am struggling with a question that I’m hoping you can help me with… my brother was dating a girl and pretty much “living” with her, she ended up pregnant and while pregnant they broke up and she moved back states away. he says he’s not the father but she looks just like him and our family. He has another child – is there any way we could find out if he is the father, I’d like 2 be a part of her life if she is my niece. Is there a dna kit to compare dna with her and his other child or her and me since I am his sister? or her and my mother since she would be the “grandmother” …Thank you, hopefully you can help me out with some info, this situation has been taking a toll on me.
Identigene says
Hi, Brittany. Yes, we definitely do sibling as well as avuncular (aunt/uncle) DNA testing. However, it would be much cheaper and require fewer participants if your brother were willing to test. Will he not?
Carmen says
I want to have a paternity test done with the sledge father, but I don’t want to have the baby present. I told my parents it was someone else. I just need to know for sure. What can I do?
Identigene says
Hi, Carmen. In order to do a paternity test, there needs to be a sample from the baby. Unless you are underage, your parents do not need to be present when you swab the possible father and the baby.
Ariel says
Hello, i found my ex cheating on me when my daughter was few month old. Now my daughter is 10year old. I would like to do a DNA test. I don’t want her to know. What will be the better way to do it.
Identigene says
Hi, Ariel. Your daughter’s DNA samples would definitely be needed for a paternity test. There’s no way around that. For suggestions on what you may or may not want to tell your daughter about testing, check out this article about this very subject: http://dnatesting.com/whos-my-daddy-talking-to-a-child-about-paternity-testing-your-survey-results/
Hannah says
If I have 2 sisters can I find out if they have the same fatber
Identigene says
Hi, Hannah. I’m assuming none of the possible fathers are available for testing? We can do a half vs. full sibling test, and the more participants in this test, the more likely the results are to be conclusive. I recommend contacting one of our relationship-testing experts directly at 888-404-4363 (M-F, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm Eastern).
Prince says
Hey, i greet you. My name is Prince from Nigeria but was born and brought up in Cameroon. I am presently in Nigeria. I had sex with a lady there in Cameroon on the 11th of september 2016, she came up to me on the 5th of november 2016 claiming to be pregnant for me. We went for Ecography and found out that she is 9weeks 1day old pregnant and she is continually claiming that i am responsible. How can i know if i am the biological father of the unborn child before she delivers of her baby?
Identigene says
Hello, Prince. Our parent company, DDC, does non-invasive, completely safe pre-natal testing for paternity. You can learn more about it here: https://dnacenter.com/dna-paternity-test/non-invasive-prenatal-paternity-test/
shonna says
i have a dilema,my son was concieved with a one night stand,i dont have a name or anything for him.are there any possibilities to finding his biological father??
Identigene says
Hi, Shonna. Chances are pretty slim, unfortunately. If the man happened to do a test with Ancestry.com or 23 and Me AND happened to agree to letting his raw DNA data be shared, then you may possibly have a chance. Sorry I don’t have better news, and good luck!
Destiny says
I want to know who my father is, but I don’t know how to go about it or even how much it would cost.
Identigene says
Hi, Destiny. Do you have any specific ideas who your father might be? Do you have contact with at least one man who might be your biological father?
Cassandra Orellana says
Hi i am 19 years old and i want to know if my father is my actual father. How can i know without telling my dad for his dna. Help me
Identigene says
Hi, Cassandra. In order to do a relationship test, we must have willing test participants from your father’s side of the family (one or both of his parents, a sister or brother, etc.). It’s also best if your mother can test. Have you talked to her about it or do you not want to tell her either? It’s hard to keep something like this a secret.
angel says
i want to know who my father is i think my mums lying to me?
Ashok says
After sex how many days its possible to to check the DNA
Ashok says
Plz answer for this
Identigene says
Hi, Ashok. We do testing to determine the paternity of a child either during pregnancy or after the baby’s born, and do not provide services for testing DNA following sex.
Confused says
The father of my child denied he was the father and now he is recently deceased. In order to clear the air with family I’d like to have results. The most cooperative relatives are his sister and his son. His father lives in another state but would be willing to provide what he needs to get this done. Which would be the BEST and MOST ACCURATE way to go about testing?
Identigene says
Hi! I’m sorry about the father of your child. You have several options for relationship testing. I suggest you contact us directly at 800-344-9583 to speak with one of our experts. They can review the possibilities with you so you can make an informed decision.
mthobisi says
Hi
I have a 3 months old daughter but I’m not sure if she’s really mine, I wanna know if I can do tests without her mother?
Identigene says
Are you on the birth certificate? If so then you would not need permission when doing a legal paternity test with court-admissible results.
Danny says
Hello i m Danny.
I m from Honduras when i come the u.s. 10 years ago My girlfriend and i have a baby she was 6 months when i move here. My girlfriend as white, green heyes And i light brown skin and brown heyes . The baby is white green heyes. I did tough as her heritage, but we have sex the last day before i come the u,s. Then 2 months later she told me. She was pregnant again. From me. Well the second baby girl born. But now the grow up enough. And. The second girl. Look like me. But not the first one. SO MY CUESTION IS. HOW I CAN DO THE DNA TEST. THEY CANT COME HERE YET. AND I DONT TRUST IN LOCAL TEST OVER THERE (Honduras) how yours can help me whit this ? Is enough a hair. Btwy tge mother is ok whit the test. So i can bring from Honduras more than a hair. Tank you ….
Identigene says
Hi, Danny. You can mail a kit to Honduras, have the mother swab both herself and the child and send it back to you. You can then swab yourself and submit all samples to our lab to get your answer. Please keep in mind that physical appearance is seldom a reliable indication of a biological relationship. Only a DNA test can confirm it for sure!
Brenda says
All my life, my stepmother has told me that my dad’s brother is really my biological father. I don’t want to hurt my dad by asking him for a DNA sample and can’t ask my uncle either. My older sister is willing to take the test with me, but my question is this: would the test with my sister be enough to prove if we have the same father or not, even if they’re brothers? I’m tired of all the stories and just want to be able to prove the truth.
Identigene says
Hi, Brenda. It’s best if both possible fathers can participate, but I understand your position. Our parent company, DDC, can do a full-sibling vs. half-sibling test. Is your mother available for testing? That would be ideal. I suggest you contact us and speak with a specialist about what your options may be. That number is 800-681-7162.
Barry says
Hi, my son has full custody of my grandson as his mother abandoned him at birth. My son is too paranoid to get a test done as to whether or not he is in fact the paternal father. Can I send in a sample from myself as well as a big cutting of hair or whatever else makes it simple to see if there is a link in our DNA. Thanks
Identigene says
Hi, Barry. It is definitely best (and cheapest too) if your son will agree to testing. That being said, as the paternal grandfather you can test with the child. Is the paternal grandmother available too? The more people who can test, the better. Ideally, the mother of the child would participate too, but in this case it’s impossible. Keep in mind that, without the mother, there is no guarantee of getting conclusive results. So that’s why it’s best if your son will agree. You would want to submit cheek swabs for you and the child, since that’s the least-invasive and most practical way to obtain DNA samples. I see you are in New Zealand. You are welcome to contact our parent company, DDC, at our international number: 1-513-881-7800 to arrange for a test in your area.
Mickey says
Good day,
I will like to know if this child is mine as alleged by the mom. The mom is not willing to do the test; however, I have access to the child and can secretly get the required specimens.
Additionally, I live Liberia, West Africa.
1)How do I get the specimens to you?
2)How do I pay for the test?
3) How long do I expect to receive the result?
Regards.
Identigene says
Hi, Mickey. Please contact Identigene’s parent company, DDC, for answers to your questions. The international number is 1-513-881-7800. Someone is available to help you from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm U.S. Eastern Time).
Chanel says
Hi,
The possible father of my unborn child is abroad i already have a child with him who is living with me. Can i find out using my sons swabs if they are both going to have the same father.
Thanks
Identigene says
Yes, once your baby’s born we can test both boys to see if they have the same father. You would need to contribute your DNA as well. Be advised the lab fee is higher than for a straight paternity test. Just give us a call when you’re ready to test!
Emily says
I feel that my fathers mother has done a DNA without my consent and forged my signature. He had a pin prick on his thighs after she took him to the public toilet to change him I insisted he’s just been changed but she insisted she would do it again. When she came. Ack he was red on his face from crying…. and she’s now saying she knows that’s her grandson for sure… is it possible she got a sample from him like that? And how do I find out if a test has been done?
Identigene says
Hi, Emily. Blood samples can be used for paternity testing, but it’s hard to imagine that she could get enough from a pin-prick. Also, there’s no way for you to find out if a test was done, unfortunately.
David says
My Family is unwilling to do a DNA and I leave in another state They won’t even talk to me My Dad passed away 20 yrs. ago How can I find out if I’m really there child
Identigene says
Hi, David. Unfortunately, in order to do relationship testing you need to be able to test your DNA with close biological relatives. Hopefully at some point your relationships can be repaired. I’m so sorry.
MARIAN says
HI AM MARIAN, I SLEPT WITH A GUY ON THE 30TH OF SEPTEMBER 2016, AND ANOTHER GUY ON THE 4TH OF NOVEMBER 2017, AND WITH MY BOYFRIEND ON THE 5TH OF NOVEMBER 2017, ON THE 6TH I OVULATED AND EVENTUALLY GOT PREGNANT AND DELIVERED A BABY BOY, I TOLD MY BOYFRIEND THAT HE IS THE FATHER, BUT NOW HE IS HAVING SOME DOUBT AND SUGGESTING A DNA TEST. WHO DO YOU THINK IS THE FATHER OF MY SON? BEFORE I AGREE TO DO THE TEST?.
Identigene says
Hi, Marian. Predicting who is the father based on ovulation can be unreliable. I suggest you let DNA give you your answer, then all the guesswork would be eliminated and you’d know for sure!
Trayce says
My name is Trayce, my biological mother told me my father was one of two men she was seeing around the time of estimated conception. Both men have been tested. One was excluded the other had different blood type. Now I am 34 yrs old and really would like to know who my father is. Since my mother has no information and does not know who else it could possible be (through her own research) is there any other possible way to find out? I have already tested through 23andMe. the info they provided was only from my mothers ancestry. It did not provide any info on my father. Please respond as I really do not know where to go from here. Thank you
Identigene says
Hi, Trayce. When you say one of the possible fathers had a “different blood type,” what exactly do you mean by that? You don’t have to have the same blood type as your father, I’m sure you know. Now, if your mother is B and a possible father is A and you’re 0, then someone’s not your biological parent. If that’s not the case for you, then I suggest you have that man do a DNA test, if he agrees. As for the other man who was excluded, is there any chance at all that he could have submitted someone else’s DNA as his own, for whatever reason? Something to consider.
Tessy says
My husband has a relationship and have a baby and the woman keeps on posting on Facebook that the boy isn’t his and there’s a man admit that he was the father but my husband hesitate to do a DNA test coz he took care of boy from infancy till he left. I want to help him to have peace of mind if he’s the father at least he will be happy but if he’s not at least there’s no more doubt.please help me what do I need to do!
Identigene says
Hi, Tessy. Until your husband wants to do a DNA test, there’s not a whole lot you can do. No one can compel him to do so except a court. Good luck!
Nikki says
I have 3 children with the same man. One of the three could possibly be someone else’s. I do not wish at this time to involve my partner with my DNA concerns because there really is a discrepancy with the timing and I could just be paranoid with a guilty conscience. Could I swab/sample our other children instead of getting a sample from the father?
Identigene says
Hi, Nikki. You can, but you should contribute your DNA as well. And keep in mind that, because of the analysis required, this type of test costs considerably more than a straight paternity test. You’re welcome to give our parent company, DDC, a direct call at 800-344-9583, and an expert will be happy to answer all your questions further.
Jordan says
Hi i would like to know if i can test my son(J) and his sister(A) to see if they share the same father. The father don’t want to do the test due to child support getting him and the mother of the little girl(A) lost custody of her and she now lives with her aunt in law in TN. and we live in TX. my son(J) is fully without question his son but the little girl (A) is still in question. what is the best test to take and the price of all of it? and can we do the test without the mother of the little girl due to her losing custody no one know where the mother ran off to.
Identigene says
Hi, Jordan. Identigene’s parent company, DDC, can do a half vs. full sibling test with the children. It’s best if the mother can participate, but it’s still possible to get conclusive results if she cannot. Please call us at 800-681-7162 for details and pricing.
Edna says
hi i adopted my 2 grandsons by my 2 diff daughters, whey say the grandsons have the same dad, can i just test my grandsons to see if they are siblings instead of cousins?
Identigene says
Hi, Edna. Yes, we can definitely do that test. Since there are so many close biological relationships involved, it’s essential that both your daughters participate in testing as well. For more information, please call our experts directly at 800-681-7162.
Elizabeth says
Will the Identigene test administered Only to me and my sister ascertain if we have the Same Father????? (we know we have the same mother)
Identigene says
Hi, Elizabeth. There are no guarantees…it depends on the genes you both inherited from your parents. I will say, however, that your chances of getting conclusive results are much higher if your other also submits her DNA for testing. The store kit is for a straight paternity test, so if you’re interested in doing a sibling test, I suggest you contact us directly at 800-344-9583 for more information and to speak with one of our experts.
Stephanie says
Hello
Is it legal for one parent do a DNA test on a minor child without the other parent knowing?
It was the NON custodial parent that did NOT get consent or speak with the custodial parent about and just did it.
Identigene says
Hi, Stephanie. If the parent has legal authority to act on behalf of the child (regardless of custody), then they can give their permission for testing. Otherwise, the parent needs the other parent’s consent. When submitting samples for testing, a customer agrees to the lab’s terms and conditions, which state that all necessary consents have been given. The burden is on the customer (and not the lab) to ensure that proper consent has been given. Keep in mind that if the non-custodial parent did an at-home test, then results are not accepted in court.
Tahmeena says
hi sir, i hve question , my husband was dting with a girl even he was 55 yer old, now the girl laim that my husband is the father of her two son, before my husband dting many girls and not able to pregenent them, even he married servel times, now i have only hair sampil of my husband and two kids, can i use them for DNA test, i also like to tel that l i have son from my ex husband , but 9 years of mrrige i hve no babies with my hubby, thanks
Identigene says
Hi, Tahmeena. You would have to contribute 5-10 hairs (with the root) for each participant. So although it’s certainly possible to do a paternity test using hair, most customers cannot provide the right type and amount of hair samples. That’s why we use cheek swabs: they’re painless, easy, and can hold plenty of DNA for testing.
Sandy says
Hi
i have a question my husband is doubting me because my son doesn’t look like him so he need a DNA test in order as a proof , that he is his child . please help me out how can i get the DNA
Identigene says
Hi, Sandy. Is your husband willing to provide his DNA for testing? I suggest you give us a call at 800-344-9583.
Kathryn says
I really need to know who my dad is, I’m 23 and rumors have been going around for quite a while now that the gentleman I’ve always thought was my dad might not be my dad and upon showing some a picture of me and my step dad they’ve said we look very much alike the only problem is he’s now passed away and I’m unable to get any DNA from him. I really need to know who my dad is before I leave the UK
Identigene says
Hi, Kathryn. Does your dad have other close relatives with whom you can test? If so, you could test with them but your mother would also need to participate in order to boost the chances of getting conclusive results. Is your step-father willing to test? These are all options for you to consider.
Shatae says
I’d like to do a DNA test with my brother to see if we have the same father. Is there a home test we can take and send in or do we need to go to a facility? Since it’s a sibling paternity test, should my mother’s DNA be included as well?
Identigene says
Hi, Shatae. Yes, your chances of getting conclusive results are much greater if your mother participates also. Do not use the home kit from the store…that’s for a straight paternity test. However, you do not need to go to a facility to do a sibling test unless you need results for legal reasons. All you have to do is call us directly at 800-681-7162, and we’ll give you information about price and send testing materials to all participants if you decide you want to do the test. Hope this helps!
Karen says
I recently had a sibling-ship test done and iI really don’t understand it. I feel like the results are not accurate. Is it a way of you can look at it to double check it?
Identigene says
Karen, you didn’t mention whether or not you did the test with us, but you are welcome to contact us directly at 800-344-9583 to see if we can help you.
Raven says
Hi, my ex boyfriend and I just recently had a baby m. While at the hospital he did not sign the birth certificate but is now requesting a DNAtest so he can try to get custody. Can I refuse the test and does he need my consent
Identigene says
Hi, Raven. He needs your consent to do an at-home or legal test. In order to use results for custody, the test would need to be a legal one. If you refuse, the court may order one.
Justine says
I had sex on my period with a guy. But when I was off my period I had sex with my husband. Found out I got pregnant. It is totally my husbands baby right?
Identigene says
Hi, Justine. You cannot make that assumption, no.
OFA says
Hi,
I have a son that does not actually look like me. Though I trust my wife to the earth that she’s very descent, but an unfounded allegation came up of recent that appeared to have been indicting. Hence, I’m considering carrying out the test on my son to settle the dust and douse my tension. My question is that how flexible and accessible is the swab procedure, because I’m doubtful of the possibility of having such done in a remote area part of my country, Nigeria. Thanks.
Identigene says
Hi, OFA. We can do paternity testing in any country where it is allowed. Please call our international number during our business hours (M-F, 8:30-5:30 pm Eastern Time, U.S) at 1-513-881-7800.
Misty says
Can my friend swab both her sons to see if they have the same dad ?
Identigene says
Hi, Misty. We can do a sibling vs. half-sibling test. It’s best if the mother participates also, with her DNA. For more info, she should call us directly at 800-681-7162.
Trina says
I’m interested in doing a paternity dna test. Not for legal reasons just to have state of mind. What kind of information is required from both parties? Do we need to provide birth certificate, socials , ids etc?
Identigene says
Hi, Trina. No, since it’s just for peace of mind you only need to provide names/gender/age/race of participants, plus a contact phone number and email address.
laila says
Hi, i have a younger cousin who looks nothing like my uncle or her mother. My cousin is like a little sister to me and lately i’ve been thinking about doing a paternity test without her or anybody else knowing. Is this legally possible?
Identigene says
Hi, Laila. It is your responsibility to obtain all adults’ consents for testing.
James says
Hi I was merried and I found my ex wife with onther guy so i brok with her after 2 months I heard she was prangnet and when onther guy did test result it was his father 99.99 do I need to do test to or not ?
Identigene says
Hi, James. If the result for the other man is 99.9% probability, then no, you don’t need to test. He’s the father.
Lauren says
My mother is virtually 100% positive that the man who raised her is not her father based on their blood types (she is AB and her father is O, which is impossible). How should she go about finding out who her real father is? Her mother won’t confirm or deny anything and will not give up any information.
Identigene says
Hi, Lauren. Probably the best option would be for your mother to upload her DNA to Ancestry.com in the hope that she can locate possible relatives to her biological father.
James says
Hey I was married and I found my ex with onther guy she had sex with him I broked with her after 2 months she said I’m pragnat and when she put baby onther guy hi did DNA test and his father bcz result it was 99.9999 so my question do I need to do DNA test too or not ? thank you so much
Identigene says
Nope.
Keisha says
Hello I have been n a relationship for 12yrs n 2yrs ago I stepped out on him n had a baby but the other man won’t call me want response to my calls r text but I talk to his mom she accepted her but I want to prove to him would it cost more to test his mother how much would it cost to test his mother n is it a good idea
Identigene says
Yes, you can test with your son’s grandmother, your son, and you. This type of test starts at $350-400, so it’s considerably more than the $24.99 for the in-store kit + the $139 lab fee cost for a straight paternity test.
Ron says
Hello , I was in a relationship about 30 years ago with a woman who near the end of that relationship was cheating on me . She was pregnant and gave birth to a girl. However , all these years later I believe have always believed the girl was my daughter . Even though she gave her the other guys last name . through the years seeing her with the girl and how she reacted was to me a dead giveaway (long story) but always made me suspicious. Anyway. The Mother claimed to have a different blood type than mine . She has passed away unexpectedly a few years ago and I’d like a DNA test to see if she is my daughter . If there is a difference in blood type can it still be done ? She also lives in Europe and I in North America . What type of DNA would be best to last the trip ?
Identigene says
Hi, Ron. Our parent company, DDC, processes thousands of samples a year from all over the world right here at our lab in Ohio. DNA collected via cheek swab is by far the most resilient and forgiving when it comes to long travel. If you test with us, we can arrange to send testing materials to you here and testing materials to there. It’s actually a very simple process and a more modern way to find answers, compared to blood typing: 800-681-7162.
Garner says
So I just found out this girl might be my sister how much does this cost and how do I find out
Identigene says
Hi, Garner. You call our experts at 800-681-7162 and they’ll be able to give you options for DNA testing along with the pricing.

Hello, My husband was in a relationship 3 years ago and they had a son in common during there relationship. Now im his new fiance and my husband and me have full custody of his son from his old relationship. We are wanting to do a DNA test for the 4 year old boy and my husband because we have doubts that it might be his biological son. How can we do this?
Can we do it with saliva only or we can take a piece of hair from the son and from the father ?
Identigene says
Hi, Maria. Cheek swabs are best.
maria says
Okay is it cheaper to buy the kit at Walgreen or where can i go in to a office i live in fort myers florida.
what are the prices ? thank you
maria says
okay i was wondering what is faster and cheaper
how does the walgreen dna kit works?
how much is the price or is it better to go into a office and do it ?
Identigene says
Hi, Maria. Testing at home is less expensive than going to an office to do it, and it’s a great choice as long as you don’t need results for legal reasons (like for court). If you need results for court, then DNA collection must be witnessed and IDs checked, and a home kit won’t work. Please call us at 800-681-7162.
Tanya says
Okay so I have a friend that is going through a costudy battle. And the “fathers” family got one without her knowing, but we don’t know if it was him or the grandparents that got a relative test. They are not legal guardians and the kid was only 2 years old at the time.
So this may not be something you can answer but my questions are: 1. can they get a relative test with a 2 year olds “consent” even if they’re not legal guardians without the mother knowing? And 2. If they did do it with the “dads” DNA can they get in trouble of the mom didn’t know about it??
Thank you in advance!
Identigene says
Hi, Tanya. Accredited labs like ours require that consent for testing for a minor child must be given by the legal guardian. For at-home tests, the burden is on the test participants to ensure they get the proper consents prior to testing, but they don’t always do so. Keep in mind that results from their test are not court-admissible.
Graham says
I have two people that can be the father of my daughter and one is wanting the test because my daughter looks like him I do I go about doing this and not really wanting my daughter around this. I want to keep it between me and him. Anyone that can help with this?
HomeDNA Identigene says
Hi, Graham. Your daughter would need to provide a sample in order to do a paternity test. Is she a minor child?
Jo says
My mum broke up with my dad and then had another boyfriend, but when they broke up got back with my dad, then dad me. I don’t look like my dad, and i don’t want to bring it up because I don’t want to upset him. I was wondering if there was any way I could do a dna test, like a hair sample without him knowing. Is that legal?
HomeDNA Identigene says
Hi, Jo. This type of DNA testing doesn’t work like on crime-solving shows. A hair sample for paternity-testing purposes would require multiple strands, with the roots, so it would be impossible for him not to know. Also, consent by all participating parties is required under most accredited labs’ terms and conditions. Best to just be upfront with him, perhaps, or just let it go. By the way, physical characteristics (or lack thereof in your case) are never proof of paternity. Lots of children do not look like their biological parents.
Lina says
Hi I have a problem now pls do you guys have an email so we can share with thank you
HomeDNA Identigene says
Hi, Lina. It’s contact@dnacenter.com.

I’m having a lot of difficulty right now. I just found out that I have 2 brothers that I never knew about. It has been explained to me now that she was very promiscuous. The things that I have been learning about my mother has started to make me second guess everything I thought was true. I look nothing like The father that is on my birth certificate and raised me, or any of his relatives. I am now wondering if my the youngest of my brothers is actually from the same father or not. Also, are we truly all sibling? Oh, what do I do, this is all so confusing. There is no one left on my father’s side to test and only one aunt on my mother’s side! However; I really don’t think any of us really have the money to get tested. There are 5 of us and it would be great to find out how many of us are half and how many are whole siblings.
Martha says
My son and his girlfriend are in prison. Would i and my husband be able to take the test and determine if this child is our grandchild. And if so what is the cost and test we would have to get.
HomeDNA Identigene says
Hello, Martha. You can do a double-grandparentage test with your grandson. The price for this test is $350. If you need results for court, there are additional fees for collection costs. You’re welcome to call our parent company DDC directly to speak with one of our experts: 800-681-7162.
Amanda says
I have 2 kids. I moved in with my now current boyfriend right before we found out about the pregnancy. Can I just do a test between both my kids to see if they are full or half siblings?
HomeDNA Identigene says
Hi, Amanda. Yes, as long as you submit your DNA as well. This optimizes the chances of getting conclusive results. The paternity-test kit in the store is not the right choice for this type of test. For more information, or if you want to go ahead and order the test, contact our parent company DDC directly at 800-681-7162.
Betty says
My cousin thinks that my father is her father, is there a way we can to the D N A to see if we are sister?
another question is my husband thinks that his aunt is his sister but not both his mother and his aunt has pass. how can we fine out if this is true
.Betty
HomeDNA Identigene says
Hi, Betty. You and your cousin can do a half-sibling test. Your chances of getting conclusive results are much better if both your mothers can participate, however, and you didn’t mention whether or not they are still living. As for your husband, that puzzle would be much harder to put together since so many people involved have passed. Rather than having a back-and-forth here about possibilities, it might be simpler for you to call one of the experts at our parent company, DDC, who can walk you through your options: 800-681-7162.
Tommy says
Hi,
Will a uncle & nephew show the same results in a paternity test?
HomeDNA Identigene says
No. They only share 25% of their DNA.

Is there any way I can test my husband “the alleged father” without him knowing. I am in a process of collecting dna samples using swabs and I already have the baby’s dna. I don’t want the alleged father to find out but it needs his signature. This test is not a legal test, it is a private test is there any way I can sign it myself? And how can I collect a sample from him?
HomeDNA Identigene says
Hi, Mariana. You need to have his permission to test his DNA. It’s best to be upfront.
Maria says
I was raised in foster care a friend and I think we are related how can we find out
Her grandfather and my father share the same name
HomeDNA Identigene says
Hi, Maria. Probably your best bet since you don’t know what the relationship might be is for both of you to do one of those ancestry tests that allows you to connect with possible relatives. That might show a connection between the two of you, if there is one. Good luck!
Duane says
I took a DNA test through your company and it revealed that I’m not my daughter’s biological father. The person that I suspect it’s the biological father is incarcerated without the possiblity of parole. My question is if the state he’s in had a record of his DNA and I’m able to have it subpoenaed, can it be used to compare it to my daughter’s DNA?
HomeDNA Identigene says
Hi, Duane. I’m not sure you could have his DNA subpoenaed in the first place. That is a question best answered by a family-law attorney.
Sam says
May i know if we can have a dna test of a baby by using baby hairs
HomeDNA Identigene says
Hi, Sam. Using hair as a DNA sample requires at least 10 hairs with the roots, which would be painful for the child. Cheek-swab samples are the best choice.
Renee says
Can I do this test while still pregnant? I need to know long story short I do not think my boyfriend is that father, we got into it and I had a one night stand, is there an option for me before I have this baby to put my mind at ease?
HomeDNA Identigene says
Hi, Renee. Our parent company, DNA Diagnostics Center (DDC) offers the only prenatal paternity test that is AABB accredited. It can be performed from the 7th week of pregnancy and is completely safe. Is your boyfriend willing to test? Because it requires a cheek-swab DNA sample from him and a small blood sample from you. If you’d like a free confidential consultation, please call us at 800-681-7162 (M-F from 8 am to 8 pm Eastern).

So My period went off New Year’s Eve NBC and that day I ha two sexual partners. Then I spent the first two Jc weeks of January with my boyfriend so now I don’t know who’s the father of my child
Marilyn says
Question?? I maybe a child of incest, my biological mother will not say who my father is nor is there a father on my birth certificate. Family members think my biological mother had children with her step father. She never had a boyfriend but was having children. She gave all of us away to family or friends her, that her and the step father worked for back in the 50’s and 60’s. I am just wondering how I can use DNA testing to see if my step grand father is actually my father. He’s deceased back in 1999. My biological mother is in her late 70’s now and she still will not say who my father is. I took a DNA with my aunt (step-sister to my mother) and the DNA test came back 97.16%.
HomeDNA Identigene says
Hi, Marilyn. Keep in mind it’s not genetic incest since your mother is not biologically-related to her stepfather. It appears you already have an answer through the avuncular test you did with your aunt.
Christian says
For two months I did not make love to my wife and I had sex with her on the 11/16 August 2019, based on the scan, the baby is 31weeks and the date of her delivery is 21 April 2020 ± 2weeks , I want to know if am the one that got her pregnant or she took in before I met her
HomeDNA Identigene says
Hi, Christian. If your wife agrees, you can do a non-invasive prenatal paternity test together before the baby is born. Or you can wait until after the baby’s born and do a postnatal test. You can learn more about prenatal testing here: https://dnacenter.com/dna-paternity-test/non-invasive-prenatal-paternity-test/
kim says
Can I do a DNA test on both of my kids to see is the father the parent of both of them without the father knowing
HomeDNA Identigene says
Hi, Kim. Yes, you can. You would also need to contribute your DNA as well, since it helps strengthen results. Our home kit is not appropriate for this test. Please order it directly by calling 800.681.7162 M-F, 8 am to 8 pm Eastern.
