Hi identigene. What gene is the d5s818? Just wonderin cause looks like 1 son is rare. N other two sons common. Wanted to know
Identigene says
Hi Mike,
The DNA profiles in paternity testing consist of DNA markers (usually 15) that are used to determine if there is a biological match, the same codis markers used by the FBI for DNA evidence. D5S818 is one of the markers that are tested. Each Marker location shows 2 alleles (the numbers listed under each participant in the example below). Everyone receives one number from their biological mother and one number from their biological father. These markers are analyzed to verify matches between the alleged father and the child. If the markers between the alleged father and child match they are given a Parentage Index number that indicates how common that marker is among the population. If the marker is rare the number will be higher, if the marker is common the number will be lower. These numbers calculate to give the probability of paternity. The probability of paternity for inclusions must be higher than 99%. The probability of paternity for exclusions will show as 0%. I hope this helped answer your question. Our friendly client support would be happy to assist you in understanding your results. You can reach us at 1-888-404-GENE, Monday – Friday 9AM-8PM ET. Thank you for your comment!

Like I had an alchohol problem and dad had disease wondering if that marker d5s818 meant since number high n rare??
Identigene says
Hi Mike,
If the marker is rare the number will be higher, if the marker is common the number will be lower. This does not mean it is tied to any alcohol consumption or diseases, DNA will not change based on those factors; it would simply indicate the uniqueness of the DNA from you and your son. Please feel free to give our friendly client support a call at 1-888-404-GENE, Monday-Friday 9AM-8PM ET and we will be more than happy to assist you with explaining your results!
