If you’re purchasing a paternity test, you’ve no doubt thought a bit about it beforehand. You’ve probably looked into what the process entails, compared prices from various companies and thought about the implications of knowing paternity and how that will change or impact the lives of the people involved in the test.
Legal Paternity Test or Personal Paternity Test?
One other item you may have considered is whether you will need a court-admissible legal paternity test or not. At IDENTIGENE, there is no difference in the way we test samples between a personal home paternity test and a court-admissible legal paternity test. Once you decide on what test you’ll need, follow the directions below if you’re wanting a personal home paternity test or click click here if you want to find out more about our court-admissible option.
A lot of work goes into the DNA paternity testing process from the laboratory side of things, but lucky for you, the process for our customers is a cinch. Below are the basics of how the IDENTIGENE process works from start to finish as well as a few tips that may help you out along the way.
What You Do
1. Purchase the IDENTIGENE Paternity Test Kit
First, you’ll need to purchase the IDENTIGENE Paternity Test Kit. You can do this by calling IDENTIGENE, purchasing a kit on our website, or by picking up a kit at select retailers. The kit will cost you about $25, depending on the store you purchase it from. We are located in CVS, Rite Aid and Walmart, nationwide and many independent pharmacies. To find a retailer near you that sells IDENTIGENE Paternity Test Kits, click click here.
2. Collect your DNA samples
Next, you’ll follow the directions of the paternity test kit to collect DNA samples. Fill out a sample envelope for each participant and be sure to fill out the order form. Collect samples from each participant by gently rubbing special buccal swabs included in the kit on the inside of the cheek for 30 seconds to collect cells. Place sample swabs in the corresponding sample envelopes. If the sample envelopes become damp, let them air-dry before putting them in the mailing envelope.
3. Mail paternity testing samples and order form to IDENTIGENE
Lastly, you’ll mail the samples and order form to IDENTIGENE in the pre-addressed, pre-paid envelope included in the kit. It is important to remember that this method of sending samples can take anywhere from 7-10 days to arrive to our lab. If you need your sample to arrive earlier, consider another mailing option such as 1st class USPS or FedEx. Once samples arrive, testing takes two (2) business days. We also have 1-day and same-day results available for an extra fee. If you have questions, please contact us!
Now that you’ve done your part, IDENTIGENE will step in and do the rest. Check out the brief overview of what happens to your samples when they arrive to IDENTIGENE.
What We Do
1. Paternity Test Accessioning
Your samples first arrive to our accessioning department where the information on your sample envelopes and order form are entered into our database. Each sample is assigned a sample number and the group of samples are assigned a case or reference number.
2. DNA Extraction
Once all information has been added to our database, samples are prepared for DNA extraction. During this process, the cheek cells on the sample buccal swab are purified of proteins or contaminants and the DNA is separated from the cell.
3. DNA Amplification
Next, IDENTIGENE laboratory technicians prepare the extracted DNA for amplification by checking plates and samples and pipetting. During the amplification process, DNA segments are duplicated for testing.
4. Analysis
Finally, segments of DNA are compared between the alleged father and child by our genetic scientists. If the mother’s sample is included, her sample will also be used to get results for paternity. A report is then generated and viewable online with your designated password.
We hope this explains the entire process for you, from start to finish!

Thank you for contacting Identigene. Sounds like we might be missing some important information that we need to process your order. If all the items required for processing are not present, your test will be placed on hold. If we have any contact information for you we will try to reach out to you via phone or email explaining what we still need to process your test. sarah says
Hello, I did a test recently and we paid with a money order, I know we will be contacted by email when test is received , I was wondering if the results are sent to the email address or an online account ! We couldnt make one because we paid with money order but I wanted to make sure we would receive the results by email
Admin says
Hi, Sarah. Once your samples arrive and the money order is processed, an account is automatically created for you. You can access it on the DNAtesting.com website by clicking the Results Login button at the top of any page. Just enter the email address associated with your account and the 6-digit pin number you entered on the order form. Keep in mind, however, that you won’t be able to access this account until you get the notification email telling you that your samples have arrived. For security reasons, we don’t email results reports. You can either download it from your online account or call us. Hope this helps!
Jessyca dryden says
I am not sure that I put a six digit pin. What happens when I receive the email if I can’t access the account to view the results?
Identigene says
Hi, Jessyca. The representatives can use other case information to determine you are who you say you are. No worries!
Dominic Jenkins says
What all do I need to mail in with my dna test? This is my first time using this.
Meisha says
Good afternoon Dominic,
After doing the collection you will want to mail in: the participants DNA samples, the payment of the lab fee of $89, and the order form completely filled out. If you would like assistance with any of the paperwork, or have any questions or concerns, please call us at 888-404-4363.
miranda says
hi do it ur self
Keyera says
I Forgot To Put Identigene On The Part Where It Says Pay To The Order Of But I Put My Name On it What will happen
Meisha says
Hello Keyera,
When we receive a money order with the “pay to the order of” blank, we do still apply it to the case it came in with. If you would like to confirm that it is applied to your case, mailing usually takes between 5-10 business days to arrive to us if you use the business reply envelope included. Once it is received you can contact us by phone at 888-404-4363 and a DNA consultant will be able to confirm that it was applied to your case.
Bob says
Whoa. The site said 1-3 business days to mail to you guys and here you’re saying 5-10 days?!
IDENTIGENE says
Hi, Bob! It’s 1-3 business days if a client opts to bypass the prepaid Business Reply envelope and send samples in directly. But if the prepaid envelope is used, it takes 5-10 business days for samples to get here. Once they’re here, results are posted in 2 business days. Can you post the link where you said you saw faulty info? Thanks!
Chase hart says
Hi, I sent mine off a couple days ago, will y’all email me when y’all receive it? Or what will happen
IDENTIGENE says
Hi, Chase! It takes 5 to 10 business days for samples to reach our lab (depending on where you live). An email will be sent to your email address on file once the samples arrive, and then again when your test results are securely posted to your online account.
Chris says
I can i finish my online account if i use a money order its not letting me finish step 9 without a credit card
IDENTIGENE says
Hi! You can’t use a money order to pay online, Chris, only a credit card. Please contact us at 888-404-4363 (M-F, 9 AM to 5:30 PM Eastern) and one of our Client Support representatives can help you finish registration.
Sha sha says
Why do I need to have a physician or lawyer to get the test done. Can’t I just do the swab and submit it to you
IDENTIGENE says
Hi! If you are a New York resident, you need physician or lawyer authorization to order the test. In any other state, you can just submit samples directly to us. Do you live in New York? If so, this will be helpful to you: http://dnatesting.com/new-york-paternity-tests/ If you have any questions, feel free to contact our Client Support Center at 888-404-4363 (M-F, 9 AM to 5:30 PM Eastern).
katelynn says
I’ve paid for the testing to be done . sent in my convent forms and y’all have yet to email me the results could they please be emailed tonight????? Thanks.
IDENTIGENE says
Hi, Katelynn. I see you’ve contacted our Client Support Team about your case, which is great. Please continue working with them. You’re welcome to call at 888-404-4363. Thanks!
Brandi says
I forgot to add an email to the order form, how do I get my results once you finish them? I have the password, just no email.
IDENTIGENE says
Hi, Brandi. Please call our Client Support Center at 888-404-4363 (M-F, 9 AM to 5:30 PM Eastern Time).
Tiffany says
Do I need to pay the $89.00 dollars first to receive my case number I just registered online I’m the adult child and the possible father would like to pay for the test
IDENTIGENE says
Hi, Tiffany. A case number is assigned once payment is made in full. Please have the possible father call us directly at 888-404-4363 (M-F, 9 AM to 5:30 PM Eastern)
Jessica says
Hi , I have a kit but lost the order form, can I still get my results with out it? I have everything else for the test. I’m also paying with a money order.
IDENTIGENE says
Hi, Jessica. You’ll need to contact us directly at 888-404-4363 and they can help you get a new form. Thanks!
Haylee says
Do you guys have a test for $750 through dhs? Also how do you do a test if the baby is not born yet
IDENTIGENE says
Hi, Haylee. We don’t contract through DHS, but we do legal testing after the baby’s born, which is what you would need. We can do pre-natal testing, but we don’t do the non-invasive type, which is what you would probably want. Keep in mind that those tests from other companies cost $1,000+. It’s probably best to just wait till after the baby’s born. If you want more details, feel free to talk to us directly at 888-404-4363 (M-F, 9 AM to 5:30 PM Eastern). Hope this helps!
Domenique Williams says
I completed the registration and paid the lab fee online on 03/05/16. I have attempted to login to my account with the user name (email address) and password that I created, but get an error message-Login not found.
IDENTIGENE says
Hi, Domenique. Please call us directly at 888-404-4363. We’re here today till 6 pm Eastern Time and one of our representatives can help you. For security and confidentiality reasons, I cannot help you on a public blog. Thanks for understanding!
Wilfredo Montero says
I’m an old customer trying to log in again to see my results again.. I cannot remember what email was used how do I fix this???
IDENTIGENE says
Hi, Wilfredo. Contact us directly at 888-404-4363 (M-F, 9 AM to 5:30 PM Eastern) and one of our Client Support representatives will be happy to help you.
Clara Mcconnell says
I’m not finding an order form in my DNA test kit what do I need to do??? Everything is ready to send!
IDENTIGENE says
Hi, Clara. Well, that’s strange! Give us a call at 888-404-4363 and one of our experts in Client Support can help you, OK?
Christy says
I sent off all my samples and paid online, but forgot to put my case number on the order form, what will happen??
Admin says
Hi, Christy. Our accessioning team should be able to tie your samples with your account. If not, someone will contact you. But I highly recommend you call us first thing in the morning on Monday to ensure your case number is tied to your case ahead of your samples getting here and that there is a record that you paid. 888-404-4363 (M-F, 9 AM to 5:30 PM Eastern).
Ramon says
I would like to know if a lady I know and myself have the same father…Is the test the same as the paternity test?
Admin says
Hi, Ramon. If the alleged father isn’t available for testing, then no. We would need to do other relationship testing instead. Call us at 888-404-4363 for details and to consult with one of our experts.
Karen says
Can you test a newborn baby only a few days old? After swabbing the mouth, how soon would you need to mail off the samples? Because what If I swab baby’s mouth but can’t get alleged father’s swab at the same time or the same day?
Admin says
Hi, Karen. The answer to your first question is “yes.” A newborn baby can definitely be swabbed. To safeguard the integrity of the DNA sample, though, be sure not to nurse or bottle-feed the baby for an hour prior to swabbing. As long as they’re stored in a cool, dry place, your samples will keep just fine up to six months.
Mercedez says
Me and my husband mailed our test of him and a child that could be his to y’all on Aug 25th how long does it take to get to you from the Dallas Tx area?
Admin says
Hi, Mercedez! That depends entirely on the postal service, but usually 5-7 days. An alert will be sent to the email address associated with the account once samples arrive and begin testing, so keep an eye out for that.
Brent says
Hi, I sent in the samples but forgot to put the order form with the case number in the envelop. I also paid online. Will the test still be done and will I still receive the results?
Admin says
Hi, Brent. Give us a direct call right away at 888-404-4363 to check on the status of your testing.
Tiffany says
I live in Missouri. I mailed out my samples on 11/8/16 around 4:15pm… Around what date should you guys receive it?
Admin says
Hi, Tiffany! If you used the postage-paid envelope included in the kit, 5-7 days shipping to our lab is expected. Once samples arrive, an alert is sent to the email address connected with the case.
clem nery - clemnery@yahoo.com says
I sent the accomplished sample envelopes from asia first and had a friend from US hand carry it only to find out that I cannot make the payment yet through your on-line site.. can you advise how I can make the payment through money transfer facilities? the samples may have arrived in your office as early as 2nd – 3rd week November..
IDENTIGENE says
Hi! We accept credit card payments and money orders. I suggest you give us a call at our international number (+1801-462-1401) during our business hours (9 AM to 5:30 PM Eastern Time) and get assistance. You can also live-chat during business hours by visiting our website and clicking on the icon toward the center of the page: https://dnatesting.com/
Maeghan says
I havent sent in my samples yet but ive already registered the test online and paid my $89 fee i see on the form it is asking for a case #? And if the #isnt referenced it could delay results. Where do i get this case#? Ive called multiple times and have sat on the phone for more than 2 hours!! Nobody answers please help
Identigene says
Hi, Maeghan. Did you receive a confirmation email once your payment was processed? The case number should be in that email. Our phones are especially busy following the long holiday break; I apologize for the longer-than-usual wait times!
Rebecca says
How long does it usually take to receive samples to you from Richmond Indiana. I check my email everyday and check my account online everyday and its been 2 weeks, and it still says you’re waiting for my samples.
Identigene says
Hi, Rebecca. The mail service is hit and miss during the holidays, so that’s probably why it’s taking longer than expected. You are always welcome to contact us directly at 888-404-4363 for updates on your case.
Alvin Antwi says
Good Morning,
I received my results Yesterday, I was informed in the beginning my emailed confirmation IDG number would be the same as my case number but the case number does not match the confirmation number I on the results. Should I be concerned about an error being made?
Identigene says
Hi, Alvin. If you have questions about your results report, please contact us directly at 888-404-4363.
briana says
I sent in the samples on Thursday but I didn’t know they had to be dry before putting in the envelope. Is this gonna affect the results?
Identigene says
Hi, Briana! It is optimal to wait till the swab dry a bit before putting them in the envelope. If it turns out that putting them in wet affected the quality of the DNA sample, then the lab will suspend testing and simply ask for new samples. So it won’t affect your results. If a results report is posted, then the samples were OK for testing.
JaNae says
So you can only log in once you receive an email?
Identigene says
Yes. Once you get the email notification that your results are posted and ready to view.
Alante Nelson says
I recently mailed my test in from dallas texas paid my fee on march 5th 2017 it is now march 10th 2017 i have not heard a response from you guys , can you let me no whats going on.
Identigene says
Hi, Alante. I cannot give case updates in a non-secure setting like this. If you mailed your samples using the postage-paid envelope included in the kit, please allow 7-10 business days for samples to arrive at the lab. You will be notified via email once they’re here and given an estimate of when results will be posted.
brian says
I lost my mailing envelope how do I send it to you
Identigene says
Hi, Brian! Using the address in your kit instructions, you can just put the sample envelopes in a regular envelope and mail them off to us.
Brittany says
Hi i am going to be taking the DNA test on the 28th but would it matter if the alleged father takes the test on the 27th would it mess up results in any way ?
Identigene says
Hi, Brittany. No, it won’t!
Lola says
I registered and paid for my test online and I placed the samples in the postage-paid envelope and put them in the mail. I did not include the order form because online it said you could either register it online or use the order form. However, the email I received asked that I place the confirmation number on the order form. What should I do?
Identigene says
Hi, Lola. Give us a call at 800-344-9583 and we can help.
Alysa says
why does it take longer to receive the samples if you’re using the prepaid envelope?
Identigene says
Hi, Alysa. The reason is takes 7-10 days for prepaid envelopes to reach our lab is because it’s 2nd class mail and the post office doesn’t give it as high priority as other pieces of mail. The prepaid envelope is included in the kit for our customers’ convenience, however, many customers choose instead to send in their samples using 1st class mail or a courier like FedEx so that they get here faster. There are how-to’s for this in the kit instructions. Once samples arrive at the lab, however, results are posted in 1-2 business days.
Mykie says
I received a text stating my samples and payment have been received and my results be available tomorrow. Does this mean that everything is okay and I will not need to resubmit or is there a chance that I may need to resend samples?
Identigene says
Hi, Mykie. What a great question! It means that if all goes well, your results will be available on the date mentioned in the email. There is always a possibility that more testing might be required in order to get conclusive results or new samples might be needed. But in most cases, everything goes well and results are issued in one day. If that deadline passes and you haven’t heard from us, by all means give us a call at 800-344-9583 (M-F, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm Eastern Time).
Chan says
If my results are contaminated do i have to go purchase another kit and send in $89?
Identigene says
Hi, Chan. Results can never be contaminated, but swabs can be. If the lab determines new samples are needed to complete testing, we will send you out new testing materials free of charge.
Tiffany says
I send my test on Aug 7th 2017. When will I need
Identigene says
Hi, Tiffany. It can take up to 10 business days for samples to arrive, and today, August 18, is close to the end of that time frame. You should get an email from us anytime. If you don’t hear by next week, please give us a call at 800-344-9583.
Chelsea says
Is it possible that I send my sample in a pay the lab fee at a later time ?
Identigene says
Hi, Chelsea. You can pay a deposit for your testing, and pay the balance later. But keep in mind your results cannot be released for you to view until the balance is paid in full.
Tony says
Hi. I just need to know if we can still pay via money order (lab fee) ?
I need to know before I purchase the kit. Thanks
Identigene says
Hi, Tony. You sure can!
sean says
I just sent in my samples but im pritty sure we didnt set up an online account and im pritty sure you just have contact #s for everyone, how will this work? Payed with cashiers check
Identigene says
Hi, Sean.
If you didn’t give us an email address, we cannot communicate with you about the status of your test nor can you access results. Please call us at 800-344-9583.
Sharolee says
Hi…I forgot to add the confirmation number to the envolope and also I registered everything online…did I still need to send the registration packet in too? If I didn’t then what will happen? Thanks
Identigene says
Hi, Sharolee. Give us a call at 800-344-9583 and we’ll get it all straightened out for you. Thanks for testing with us!
Julia says
I don’t even remember seeing a 6 digit password on the order form and it’s been over a week and still haven’t even gotten an email saying they received it at the lab but yet they too, the money out my bank ?
Identigene says
Julia, it takes on average 7-10 business days for samples to arrive at our lab. If you paid online, then yes, you would have been charged already. Please call us directly at 800-344-9583 to get the latest information about your case.
Julia says
I DIdnt pay online I paid through to the mail. You did not answer all my questions! Why didn’t I get a 6 digit password on my order form.
Identigene says
Hi, Julia. You choose the 6-digit password yourself, as indicated in kit directions. It’s not something that is automatically provided to you. Rather than trying to have a back-and-forth conversation online, it would be much simpler and faster for you to call us directly at 800-344-9583.
Malik says
I sent my dna sample kit in and it’s been 12 days and no email.
What did I do wrong? It is coming from Fayetteville North Carolina
Identigene says
Hi, Malik. You didn’t do anything wrong. Chances are good that the postal service is just giving business-reply mail lower priority during the holidays. It should arrive anytime and you’ll be notified once your envelope arrives and testing begins.
Malik says
The mother of the child put her email address on the cheeck swab sample pack so will I be notified through her email? Cause I didn’t put down an email besides her email.
Identigene says
Email communications are only sent to the email associated with the case, which is hers. If you’d like to modify any information, you’ll need to call Identigene directly at 800-344-9583.
Bj says
I registered online and included the code on the back of the swab envoples as well. I did not send order form in with the samples but all the information was submitted online. Just seeing will not sending in the order form delay the process?
Identigene says
Hi, Bj. If you paid online and included the barcode from your kit during registration, you’re just fine.
Tina says
I got test results for my child and wanted to know how the case number is determined?
Identigene says
Hi, Tina. I’m not sure what you mean by case number?
Tina says
On the report I got, it says “Case 00000**”
Identigene says
Tina, that is a case identification number that we assign at the lab so as to look up information quickly and prevent cases from getting mixed up. It is for internal use only. I have edited the case number you mentioned in your comment for security reasons, FYI.
Christopher says
I mailed off my DNA tests last week. I saw on the website that there was 1 business day turn around time. I am wondering how long this process can take. Thank you!
Identigene says
Hi, Christopher. How long the full process takes depends on how customers send their samples to us. If it’s via the postage-paid envelope included in the kit, it can take 10 business days for the postal service to deliver them. Some customer choose to send them FedEx or even overnight, so they get their results back faster. No matter how samples are sent, once they arrive at the lab and testing begins, results are posted to your secure online account in just one (1) business day.
Nay says
It’s been 10 business days and I haven’t heard anything from you guys. I sent it on the 17th and still nothing what is going on?
Identigene says
Hi, Nay. Please give us a direct call at 800-344-9583 for an update on your test.
Carolyn says
How much does the actual lab testing cost to have the test done? You said we could purchase the test at Walmart for about $25.
Identigene says
The lab fee ranges from $89 to $139, depending on which kit the store has in stock. We honor the price printed on any of our kits, no matter the price.
Marie says
I sent my samples in just this past monday… But reading this page i seen the father was supposed to swab his cheek.. he put the swab under his tongue and not for a full 30 seconds.. will that affect the results?
Identigene says
Hi, Marie. It wouldn’t change results, but what may happen is that the lab won’t have enough of his DNA for testing and they’ll ask for new samples. So there could be a delay in getting your report.
Alex says
What happens to the samples after they are tested? Are they destroyed? What if I wanted to have the DNA information deleted from your records?
Identigene says
Hi, Alex. Samples are destroyed after testing. Your report is available for you to view online for 30 days and, if it was a home test, is kept in our records for 90 days. If it is a legal test, we keep the report in our records for five years. You’re welcome to contact us at 800-344-9583 for more info.
Lori says
I sent test results for my son over 2 weeks ago. I have not received an email confirming anything. This has been very frustrating for us and we would like answers. All paper work was filled out and a code name was given. Could someone please look into this. We paid for this to get results..
Thank you for looking into this matter
Lori
Identigene says
Hi, Lori. It can take about 2 weeks for the post office to deliver postage-paid mail, so it most likely has just arrived or will be very soon. You’re more than welcome to contact our customer-service team directly at 800-344-9583 (M-F, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm)since, per HIPAA regulations, we cannot discuss specifics about any case in a public forum like this.
Dee says
Have you received results yet and how long did it take please
Lori says
I understand the rules of HIPAA that’s why I left my email address. It’s the same email address that the info should come to. I have been in contact with customer services with no real answers. I have used this system before and had no difficulty, so I hope you can appreciate my concern.
I will give it to next week and call back..
Dee says
I paid and sent off over 12 days ago no response. I cant even login it say account inactive.. i paid good money for this.. what is going on. Im frustrated as is come on now. Customer Service wont tell me absolutely nonething
Identigene says
Hi, Dee. Thanks for testing with us It can take 10 business days (not including weekends) for the postal service to deliver samples to our lab if you used the postage-paid mailer in the kit. Once they’re here and testing begins, an email notification is sent to the address on file and everything goes very fast. As suggested in the kit instructions, many customers choose to send their samples back to us a different way, like overnight or via FedEx so they’ll get here faster. Customer service is not able to tell you anything about the status of your test until your samples actually get here, which should be very, very soon. And, as mentioned on the website, you can’t access your account until your results are ready. Waiting for samples to arrive is always the hardest part for customers…hang in there!
Lynn says
Why do you ask for name and date of birth if you do not put it on test results for piece of mind test. I have tested several times with your company and I’m concerned that you are seeing my past testing and reprinting them instead of retesting. I changed them names on one test but paid with the same credit card so the representative was still able to see all my test..so then I changed names again and paid with money order. But then I found out that your company has caller ID and used my phone number and pulled all my test up…why!!
Lynn says
What on my test assures me you ran the test every single time. Dna does change so how to I know you ran it?
Identigene says
Hi, Lynn. You’re correct that the phone system recognizes numbers that have called before and pulls up all cases associated with that number. Per HIPAA, we have to ask for three identifiers before speaking to anyone about a case…phone-number recognition is used as one of those, and so we only have to ask for two if a known customer calls in. As a lab that maintains the highest accreditations, we test all samples when they come in and ask for all information again, regardless of whether or not a customer has tested with us before. We never reprint past information. Each report has a different case number. I’m not sure what you mean by “DNA does change.” If it’s the same person testing again (for example, the child’s DNA if she’s testing with multiple fathers), then her DNA will be exactly the same across all tests.
Lynn says
Thank you for telling me that…so all my efforts for changing names and date of birth were useless to assure my samples were retested ( so they look like new clients for testing)because my past test were pulled up when I called to register my test because of caller ID..I meant to say DNA does not change..what on my test assures me my samples went through the process of being tested? If Jane Doe tested 2 weeks ago from phone number 555-5555 and she is calling again to test now and DNA doesn’t change your company could just reprint my test from before and take my money and I would never know..there has to be something on the test results to assure your client it was ran and ran again..my very first test was a split kit because we lived in different states..samples arrived on June 7th but never tested until June 27th last year…I never got an answer for that…this never set right with me but whatever…so I have retested several times to make sure first test was correct and no sample mix up happened…results come back the same but each time I found out that your system some however keeps linking all my test together..by payment or phone number etc. Please give me something that assures me that the test were ran each time besides just your word…
Lynn says
When a client believes that an individual on the test did not swab their own mouth and they retest and witness the swabbing process and mailing of samples the last thing they want is their tests to be linked together by the lab by a phone number…results come back the same then it leads to questioning whether the lab actually ran the test the second time… hopefully you see my point and can give me something to reassure me you ran test each time
Identigene says
All I can tell you is that we’re an AABB-accredited lab and we run testing on every single sample that comes through here. The phone number on the case is not used as an identifier for the testing process itself, so the lab had no knowledge that you tested with us before. It is only used as an identifier when a customer calls in to customer service.
Lynn says
I understand why your company can’t put names on the test but then why do you even ask for it..you give reference number to put on each sample so that should be enough info unless you are using that information to look for past testing and reprinting test
Anetress says
We purchased kit and sent in DNA test. However we could not login in to see results. Also we could not get assistance to reset password
Identigene says

Toni says
Hello the tracking number on the pre paid envelope does not work. This is very frustrating to a customer to not know where in the process they are.
Identigene says
Hi, Toni. Please contact us at 800-344-9583. This is the first I’ve heard of any issues with the tracking numbers…yours might be a one-off.
Steve says
I have two questions..first, your laboratory (ddc) advertises that they run every test twice to ensure accuracy of the results. Is that true for home paternity test( peace of mind test) or is it just for legal paternity test? I have read an article that states the dual process is for professionally collected DNA samples which leaves me to wonder if home paternity DNA are not ran twice. Second question is the lab is aabb accredited which is great but aabb states accreditation does not apply to home paternity test lab so I’m confused by that..does that mean the process to which home paternity test was ran is not governed by your aabb standards?
Identigene says
Hi, Steve. Great questions all. Our extraction and analyses processes are exactly the same for at-home tests as for legal ones. We do run every postnatal test twice, both for inclusions and exclusions. The main process difference between at-home and legal is in how the DNA is collected. Although our lab itself maintains a full battery of accreditations, the at-home test cannot be accredited by the AABB, since the identification of participants cannot be verified. Hope this helps! You can see our accreditations here: https://dnacenter.com/about-ddc/accreditations/
Steve says
That’s good news…so all home paternity test are run twice? The child in my case is over 20 so that’s postnatal right?
Steve says
Great news…why did you use the term postnatal…postnatal is afterbirth to 6 weeks old…the child in my case is 20 years old.. was my home paternity test ran twice
Identigene says
By postnatal, I simply meant following birth, no matter the age of the child. Yes, your test would have been run twice. We have a non-invasive prenatal paternity test, which is why I made that distinction.
Steve says
Why does my question/post keep getting deleted…your lab advertises that it uses dual testing process meaning test are run twice for quality assurance does that apply to home paternity or just legal test?
Identigene says
Hi, Steve. Your question was not deleted; I responded to it yesterday.
Steve says
Hello..how will I know when you respond to my question
Identigene says
Hi, Steve. You are notified via email.
Anthony says
I mailed my test and everything to you guys on the 9th of this month. I live in KY. How long will it take for the test to get to y’all
Identigene says
Hi, Anthony. Thanks for testing with us! If you used the postage-paid envelope in the kit, please allow up to 10 business days for delivery; but it will most likely be sooner.
Ira says

Mary Jane says
my husband already mailed the samples today 07/23/18 but I didnt get to include the paper mail order form. It was already paid online though and I already filled out all our information online, would that be a problem?
Identigene says
Hi, Mary Jane. No, you’re fine! :-)
L says
Man its been exactly 2 weeks since I’ve mailed out the samples and it says y’all still haven’t received em. Like how long does it actually take cause it’s driving me crazy.
HomeDNA Identigene says
Hi, L. It takes about 10 business days (not including weekends and holidays) for the USPS to deliver samples to us. Since it’s been 2 calendar weeks for you, they must be just about here. As mentioned in the instructions, if customers want their samples to reach us faster and don’t mind paying for postage, they’re always welcome to send the envelope priority mail or via FedEx.
Hunter S says
Hi,
I sent off my kit almost 10 days ago. My payment was processed three working days ago, but I still have not received an email, call or text saying that y’all have even received my kit. I can not log in with the email i provided as It says it is not set up. I have been on hold on the phone with y’all for 3 hours and have not spoken to a single person yet. I also sent an email asking and have not heard back yet.

Christopher says
I failed to include the filled out form. I paid online, and included my phone and email on the swab packets. I see a common answer is that I should call, but can I still get my results with out the form sent? I’d like an answer that isn’t call the number please.
HomeDNA Identigene says
Hi, Christopher. Since you paid online, the bar code for your kit is already attached to your information and you don’t need to return the filled-out form.
Destiny says
I’m trying to register my kit online but the barcode is not working. I would like to pay online if possible.
HomeDNA Identigene says
Hi, Destiny. You’ll need to call us directly at 800-344-9583 and selection the option to make a payment. Thanks!
Walter says

HomeDNA Identigene says
Hi, Walter. No doubt your samples are still making their way here to our lab. No worries!
Llarima says
Hi I mailed my samples March 25th and you guys charged my card April 4th. I still have not received an email or phone call about my results.
HomeDNA Identigene says
Hi, Llarima. I have located your case and no email was provided as requested on the paperwork, so we couldn’t reach out to you via email, which is how we communicate. I’ll have someone reach out to you today.
Christian says
i mailed in my paternity kit without paying. can i still pay for it or do yall get rid of those?
HomeDNA Identigene says
You’re welcome to call us at 800-344-9583 to pay for the test. Or, if you still have the kit box, you can register it online and pay there.
Kimberley says
I’ve been trying to get the status of my results since April 22. I haven’t received anything in my email.
HomeDNA Identigene says
Hi, Kimberley. You’re always welcome to call us during business hours at 800-344-9583. Our records show your samples are still in transit (May 7) and have not yet arrived at our lab. Once they do arrive, you’ll get an email from us.
Tomasena says
I want to know how much are fees before I purchase a kit. Could anyone let me know how much fees are?
HomeDNA Identigene says
Hi, Tomasena. The lab fee for testing one child + one possible father + the mother (her participation is optional, but recommended) is $139.
Tameka says
Is there a way to track samples to know that it was received, or is it confirmed when I receive the first email with confirmation number and pin? I paid online but barcode did not work. If unable to track, how long does it take to receive samples?
HomeDNA Identigene says
Hi, Tameka. Thanks for testing with us. Most kits in the stores now have trackable mailers. It’s possible you got one of the older kits that can’t be tracked. Receipt of samples at the lab is confirmed via email. It generally takes 7-10 business days for samples to arrive at the lab (not including weekends).
Kristie says
What is the email that will be connecting us when the results are in?
HomeDNA Identigene says
Hi, Kristie. It’s contact@dnacenter.com.
Alex says
Nothing is ever sent in the mail unless requested, correct?
HomeDNA Identigene says
Hi, Alex. We are required to send the “results ready” via email to the address connected with the account. Other than that, you can request all notifications to be via text message only.
Lexi says
If I got an email pushing back my testing a day and when I called they said the lab needs more time what could that mean?
HomeDNA Identigene says
Hi, Lexi. It’s nothing to worry about, honestly. It’s usually for one of these reasons: (1) The lab needs to test additional markers in order to obtain conclusive results, or (2) More analysis is required because they detected a genetic mutation.
Sasha says
Hello I sent in a paternity request on 3/11/20 and still havent recieved any info on process or approval .
HomeDNA Identigene says
Hi, Sasha. Please call us directly at 888-404-4363 for an update on your case.
Kerri says
If alleged father used his DNA swabs and placed them n his envelope and the alleged children’s will the lab detect that or give a positive even tho the children’s DNA was not taken.. asking on behalf of family member
HomeDNA Identigene says
Hi, Kerri. The lab will detect that the DNA is the same on all swabs and ask for new samples.
Kaprice says
Hi, did the dna swabs n sent them off at the post office monday. I used the envelope that was with the kit. I made the purchase online but i also paid to get the results a day or two days early. My first question is how long before i receive my results?
So he swab his mouth but didn’t do it the full 15-30 seconds. N he swabbed his cheek n for some reason round the inside of his lip too. My second question is will that cause a delay n my results?
HomeDNA Identigene says
Hi, Kaprice. If you used the postage-paid envelope included in the kit, it can take 5-10 business days to reach us. Once they’re here, though, and testing begins, you’ll have your results back within the time frame you purchased. As for the swabs, if there is not enough DNA to complete testing, then results are delayed because testing is suspended and new samples must be obtained from the customer. But if you are issued results, then there were no problems with the swabs. Hope this helps!
